Agreed. Someone yelling "fire" in a crowded place, because the ensuing panic could potentially causes injury or death, is different than someone making a Facebook posting that says they think so-and-so is a "big fat dummy."

But i think this legislation from Germany is targeting people using social media for things like jihadists advertising for new recruits to go kill people overseas, or people trying to illegal sell drugs, or fake drugs, or soliciting prostitution, or linking fraudulent news stories that are photo shopped with copy writed material, to make them look like they cam from legitimate news sources, etc...

It is government, and this does open the door for mischief, like expanding the ban to enforce political correctness, etc...

True, but do you want federal regulators to stick their fingers in here, and decide what new and silly things are now deemed as offensive, resulting in your posts deleted, or worse yet.... you getting banned?

It's government, bureaucrats want to feel like they are doing something. They will not be satisfied sitting on their asses and doing nothing, they will find new and inventive ways to regulate speech and/or content, bank on it.

It is the NATURAL progression of government to control, restrict, monitor, and GROW their power, and size. It is a constant battle for people that want to maintain rights, freedoms, and liberties.

So much unrelenting fear and nowhere to hide?

Must be tough.

Just a sample of how people attempt to incite by suddenly inserting words like "silly" to describe things the government will censor.

"True, but do you want federal regulators to stick their fingers in here, and decide what new and silly things are now deemed as offensive, resulting in your posts deleted, or worse yet.... you getting banned?"

Never mind that all the laws crafted by countries with freedom indexes higher than the U.S. have been carefully administered to preclude just such things as "new and silly" being among the descriptors with some of the laws having been in place just like the U.S. laws for over 70 years.

Never mind that if it were governmental intention, as though government is an entity unto itself without being made up of your fellow citizens YOU'VE elected, to do such things anywhere in first world advanced nations, the opportunity should have presented itself long ago for them to reveal their intent.

Never mind all this ballyhoo and fear inducing nonsense does more harm to you as individuals than any "hate speech" law presently or anticipated.

Germany is trying to make-up it past......if shutting-down free-speech is what it takes, looks like they are fine with that.

Taking a cue from the left-wing Oligarchs running much of the internet.

Exactly, and those that "run much of the internet" like Google, Yahoo, MSN, Facebook, Twitter, etc are all private companies that legally can, and do control their contact. Specifically they censor conservatives, and promote the far left agenda. It is a lot of POWER. Non-biased alternatives need to be introduced to the marketplace.

They have been used to punish political dissent. The laws are evil, and lol at the implication that any country is freer in that regard than the US.
