The number of people who want a job, but are not looking is also tracked by the BLS. The Dec 2017 number is 5.3 million which is about 1 million above the lowest ever recorded in 2000. Its down .3 million since last year. If you added 5.3 million to the U3 number it would be in the 8% range, not 18%.

In reality, 578,000 workers lost their jobs.

The number of working Americans peaked in September 2017 at 154,494,000 and has since declined by 892,000 to 153,602,000 in December.

The primary reason govs have keep pensions is to attract workers. Gov work tends to be paid less, provide few opportunities to progress internally and can be very frustrating. they need something to draw in people...

I remember years ago people wanted to work for the big companies (that had pensions) like Boeing, GE, and a slew of
others.

Now it seems like everyone wants a government job.

That was before Trump was president. Deep staters at the BLS have covered up that more than a million jobs per month have been created since then leading to "full employment". At least, that's what my dog told me.

participation rate is about where it was a few years.
U6 is about where it has been for years.

OBAMA created MORE JOBS in 2016 than Trump did in 2017..
and of course that is true for 2016, 2015, 2014 ,2013 ,2012... too.

But here is the important part. who really cares about the exact number, what matter is the MASSIVE LIE TOLD BY TRUMP. Trump has been shouting about how he created this job, that job, saved this job saved job. Trump has been bragging for 12 months about how great his job creation is and how he has brought jobs home and ended offshoring etc etc... but the numbers 1 year late prove Trump has just been lying, blowing smoke, over stating. etc
Meanwhile Obama quietly did better year after year, Obama quietly fixed what bush destroyed .

not really.

There are many threads here relating jobs for the last year...

2016 with Obama in power Repubs all over these threads, LIED and claimed Obama's numbers were fake.

2017 with Trump in power Dems all over these threads, debating discussing never calling the numbers "lies"..

see the difference folks? Republicans on these threads are happy to lie about BLS numbers when it suits them. Dems do not. instead we actually discuss the topic.

and when we step out into the wider world the same thing holds true. Sure there are outliers, but overall the endless lies about factual matters come from the right. it is demonstrable, and everyone here left right and center knows this is true.

and let not forget, Despite all the hype, Trump created Fewer jobs this year than Obama did last year....all the talk all the bragging from posters on this forum, and yet Trump failed to even keep up with Obama.

The US economy created 148,000 jobs in December, fewer than economists had forecast.
The retail sector lost the most jobs amid a wave of store closures.
Still, December was the 87th straight month that employers hired more people than they fired, extending the longest-ever stretch of job growth on record.

Well, it gets to a point where you're very near full employment and the pace of jobs added slows. Expect wages to rise.

but i thought Trump was going to create jobs like we have never seen before??? and if you are right about full employment then why one full year later are wages flat????

during 2016 you guys all claimed Obama's numbers were fake ..
we KNOW Trump created FEWER jobs this year than Obama did last year... and if obama's numbers were fake than Trump should have been able to make twice as many jobs as Obama... so why did trump fail?

seems to me you guys are making up excuses for trump's failures all the time now...
