this attack will fail. But it will drive more moderates to Dems and help dems retake the house and maybe senate in 2018. so far 29 Rs have said they are leaving at the end of their terms, i suspect that number may double or more.

Their letter makes what is called a criminal referral to the Justice Department, suggesting it investigate the dossier author, former British spy Christopher Steele, for possibly lying to the FBI. It is a crime to lie to FBI agents about a material fact relevant to an ongoing investigation.

Umm yeah, so he referred to the same people (the FBI) to whom he lied claims that Steele lied to them. Wouldn't you think the FBI would know about that?
Furthermore- Steele has a pretty long track record of providing intel to the CIA, FBI and other allied governments. He's a 'source'. Not sure how much traction Grassley is really going to get.
Furthermore X2 it greatly appears that the info that Pappy blabbed to the Australian ambassador is what ultimately led to the investigation in the first place, and if that is indeed the case- this referral means about BOO to anything.
It simply looks like partisan maneuvering to try and deflect as much attention away from the investigation as possible, which in my mind is absolutely troubling.
My money is on a republican campaign to discredit the Australian ambassador to be next on their agenda.
Grassley is just making it public that he knows there is evidence that Steele was lying, and may have violated the law.
There is nothing half baked, there is evidence that Steel lied, Grassley is letting everyone know that fact.
