China's approach to the rest of the world - work with local governments, bring in infrastructure, etc - is obviously going to get them a lot further than America's rape and pillage policy, which mostly just results in chaos and lots of body bags.

China is still developing but the trajectory of both the country and its relations with the rest of the world is clear. They'll continue to advance at home and spread influence around the world. Meanwhile the US is turning inward, isolating ourselves and retreating from the world stage. We're enacting policies and budgets that will devastate US leadership in science and technology.

Sadly, much of the US seems perfectly happy to fall behind and actively works and votes to make it happen faster.

We leave for Nicaragua tomorrow. Pre-trip, I started to read - and had no idea of our history with Nicaragua, well-predating the Sandinista era. Like you say, the coups, the US-led instability all in the name of protecting American business.

And then we wondered why Cuba was so attractive to the Nicaraguans? And why Americans are disliked.

History is fascinating stuff.
The government now in nicaragua is highly corrupt, and the U.S. is working to impose sanctions. The hypocrisy is that the U.S. was the first country to congratulates the president of honduras last month when it was obvious for everyone they are completely corrupt and stole the general election.

More Mexicans Leaving Than Coming to the U.S. | Pew Research Center

Well, what do you know? A valid source shows more going back! You must be including the white slavery that Trump and others hire to serve drinks at their resorts.

2. If Liberalism is a western "disease", then Russia is really the best type of place for you. You are a strict authoritarian and therefore like to be in the pecking order (as opposed to the idea of equality). Let some strong men tell you and direct you what "culture" should be.

3. You are close to correct. America, the melting pot, was and is the great experiment. It was supposed to be similar in that fashion to the French Revolution(s). Cast off Monarchy - cast off the church - all people are the same. Life is for living, etc.
It worked at some times to some degree. But the ruination of it has little to do with diversity or multiculturalism - it has to do with Greed and Selfishness. I think anyone who studies the subject will find plain old White Men stealing more money (just look at Rick Scott's old corp) than any other group(s) of people - but they set the standard and it is considered OK in the USA to take ANY bribe, graff, nepotism, etc. - in fact, in a place like Florida if you don't you won't last long.

Our problem is no liberalism. It is a lack of liberalism (if do-gooding and honest and power to the people can be assigned largely to that side of things).

Never the less, we are almost too far to turn around. Just as mankind earlier assumed the earth was endless and same with the water and air and resources, "conservatives" think they can fiddle with people and mother nature to ANY degree (for $$ and power and women, of course) and there will no change in quality of life, budget or anything else. They have been proven wrong and are eating the Goose which produced the Golden Egg. Soon much of Florida will be Russian and Asian owned and the houses and condos will be cleaned (and built) by Mexicans. Haitian will pick whatever crops are left after development continues to make it tangled mess.

But, hey, you can watch netflix in your living room! That's something!
You are all over the place, one minute you are sounding like an America first nationalist talking about Russians and Asians buying up the place than you sound like a liberal saying mass immigration is fine

Your link was an article from 2015 and quoted years from 2009-2014 and it only stated that the obvious fact that many anti immigration activist have been making, these people have no desire to assimilate and become Americans. They just want to make money and send it back home to mexico

In the 1940s we had far far less immigration for the entire decade than we had in obamas last year of 2016, the entire immigration numbers for the decade of the 1950s is just over the amount obama let in during the 1960s.

'Chain migration' choking US, record 1.8 million immigrants in 2016, 14 million since 2006

The United States has a larger immigrant population than any other country by a long shot.

Why dont you look at immigration numbers for china, japan, south korea, etc? How many refugees do they host, how are illegals treated there?

During the most prosperous period in America history the postwar period until the 1960s we did it with very little immigration.

During the post ww2 era we did it by investing in science and math and education, we didnt just rely on hb1 visa to bring in engineers ,we educated our own. We had the gi bill that helped people buy homes attend college , we built a space program the went to the moon, the us gdp went from 228 billion in 1945 to to 1.7 trillion in 1975, By the 1970s the US economy represented 35% of thew world industrial output and we were 3 time larger than the next economy. Cities that werent filed with homeless , on and on

All with very little immigration compared to now

Than we got the baby boomers and all the social revolution of the 1960s and ted kennedy opened the floodgates and we got the recessions of the 1970s

That's horse crap. How did America rape and pillage????

As a matter of historical facts, US saved China many times. Without US, China would be done. Today, China got rich by stealing and copying everything America invented. Yes, great successful story of a ungrateful master thief.

Before Mao killed millions doing the Cultural Revolution ... Chiang Kai-shek killed millions more with the Yellow River dam ... and THAT was preceded by the chaos of the Warlord Era. There is nothing an American can tell someone in China about ruthlessness.

And THAT is why the Chinese so prize stability. And have continued a relatively authoritarian form of government. It's been bred into their genes.

Our weakness? Americans are notorious for having little idea of what and who we are dealing with - be it the Chinese or be in the Middle East and so we stumble into mess after mess.

As for the "think thing." Quickly, a funny story. Years ago I was sitting around a health spa in Beijing and started talking to some expat. He had his daughter in a local Chinese school even though there was a international school available - he preferred the Chinese form of education - but ONLY to about fourth grade. That's a digression - his general observation.

Take 3 graduate students - one Chinese, one European, and one American. Give them some general sort of assignment - then compare the output.

The Chinese (now this was some years ago, no doubt some changes here) ... will give you a recitation of exactly what the leading accepted authorities in the field "think" ...

The European will provide a careful synopsis of all current research ...

The American will tell you what THEY think.

So, yeah, I get the think thing.

PS - I'll add a quick note. Fascinating to walk into a Chinese kindergarten - all the kids are drawing the exact same picture - copying it - but WELL. American kids at that age are creating individualistic scribbles. The expats observation about switching his kid out at the fourth grade - pair the best of the Chinese with the best of Western education.

Not sure what your point is.

Seriously, how likely is this?

Craigirl, you cray-cray. Or just in the middle stages of Trump derangement syndrome.

Fear not, though. You’ll get a crack at the big orange booby in two years and change. Maybe Liz Warren’s number will come up, and America Will Be Healed.
Why do you mention Trump? He wasn't mentioned once in the OP.

The individual you are responding to is likely talking about illegal immigration and not all immigration as you are claiming, which indeed shows more illegals are going back than coming in.

The increase overall is from Legal immigrants coming in.

So the problem isnt the media, its people like you misinterpreting what the media is saying or flat out not caring and making up your own narrative.

The Chinese way is not sustainable without America.
