A huge expense that is also time consuming is the eminent domain process that has to be resolved. The legal battles over this will go on for years. Think of how many private property owners would be involved.
The wall is just not economically feasible and won't keep Mexicans out of the US. They will find a way to get in. Anyone who actually thought that Mexico would pay for the wall was very gullible.
I voted "no". I do not care if there is a wall or no, but I do not wish to pay for it, knowing it won't stop illegal immigration, or drug smuggling. There is a wall in Egypt/Gaza border with nearly 2000 under it. It actually makes border crossing easier because you can go underground where you won't be seen.
If Mexico is hit with rough economic times, many more might want to illegally move to the US. Even with a wall, couldn't they just come through customs as tourists and then overstay their legal time-window of welcome?
It seems like tariffs could get "Mexico to pay for the wall," but might be very counterproductive to the point of having a wall.
One year of not paying the UN $24 billion would more than pay for an EXTRA big wall......
