That said, this discussion feels a bit off topic and might be better for another one. My point was a bit more simple: We are a not a nation of any single ethnicty, religion, or culture.
It is even more simple than that, we are not a nation. We are an economy.
The whole system is built to maximize economic-growth, and to build a worldwide trading empire.
The so-called "tolerance" that people often associate with America, has nothing to do with any sort of American ideals. Tolerance is necessary if you want to build a global empire.
The reason governments are secular, is because a government which proclaims itself Christian or Muslim or whatever, will appear hostile to anyone unlike itself. A secular government is like a chameleon, it could be anything. It is endlessly malleable, because it isn't actually anything at all.

A capitalist will become anything you want him to be. He will speak any language, he will cater to any culture or any religion. He is a chameleon, and everywhere he goes, he tries to blend in. He is everything, and nothing.
Mark Zuckerberg isn't an American, he is a capitalist. Just because he was born here, and lives here, doesn't make him an American. He has no loyalty to you, or me, or anyone else. He is just as much at home in London, or Paris, or Beijing, as he is in New York City.
As the saying goes, the only color that matters to a capitalist, is green. That is what America is. That is what it always has been. And that is what it will always be.
America will always pursue its "national interests". America became a superpower by bringing in desperate immigrants from all over the world to help build our industry(and keeping us artificially competitive by holding down wages). And America will turn its back on anyone and everyone the moment they are no longer beneficial(as we did with the Chinese).
What you don't seem to want to address, is whether this whole process is actually a good thing. And whether you, and others like yourself, are actually making the world better.

For one: No one is arguing for illegal immigration.
For two: No one is arguing for "un vettable masses from terror sponsoring areas of the world". You do realize that we have been, very extensively, vetting refugees to this country for a very long time? You know that nonsense that Trump spouted about vetting? Well, he didn't even freaking bother to check what kind of vetting our border agents were already doing! What an ignorant fool.

True. While I can't speak for everyone who is left of center, most progressives I've met are NOT advocating for "endless immigration." That's obviously not workable for various practical reasons. But we are tired of the insane bigotry demonstrated by various right-wingers against immigrants they hate for petty reasons.
I strongly suggest people read up on the Know Nothing Party, the Yellow Peril, the Chinese Exclusion Act, and other such things in our nation's history.
So many of these right-wing bigots who are screaming about how some ethnic or religious group will "destroy America" would themselves not have been allowed in this nation a century or two ago because the bigots of their time assumed THEY would "destroy America." Round and round the lunacy and fear of "the other" goes, and the hypocrisy is laughable. People seem to learn nothing, and fear is the main motivator.
So, no, while endless immigration is not practical and business interests are always what matters most (sadly), the real sticking point are the people who honestly believe America's tolerance towards different cultures and religions should extend just far enough to cover them and their ancestors - but not an inch further. There are cultures and religions in this World that are a problem, and if your blind to Islam as being one of these problems, then you must be blind, since its a reality and not a myth. Illegal Immigration is a problem, and Muslims that think we are evil and despise everything we do here are not ideal immigrants that benefit this Nation. The Illegals drain our tax resources and are a burden to all Americans, and the Muslim Immigrants are trying to make any Neighborhood they move to, a Islam Neighborhood and want to have Sharia Law. Not all, but enough to be concerned about. Why would we want these people to be here? Would you take them into your home, with no conditions? If not, then why want them in our Country with no conditions. Time for a reality check. Liberals will not win in the end, same as the British lost in the end to the Patriots of this Nation, who far outnumber the Liberal Socialists, who want a "United Socialist States of America." One can not defend the virtues of Illegals and Devout Muslims, when you see them in the streets giving Americans the "Finger" and waving Flag of the Countries they have come from. They don't even accept they are in America and that we have Laws, How can they ever become model citizens. They can't. I am an Immigrant and went through the legal process, and pledged Allegiance to this Nation. Most of them are not willing to do that, and that's a point you can not argue.

The Lefts refusal to abide by the Laws of this Nation will eventually come back and Bite them. When enough people on the Right decide that Laws do not matter since they don't matter to the Left Wing Liberals. Liberal Socialism will be put to an abrupt end if they push hard enough and become a threat to this Nation, which they have just about reached, with all the information coming out about the Previous Administration using the FBI and the Justice Department as weapons against our free Elections. That's what Stalin and Hitler did. We are close, and its not getting any better.
