Although you are not asking ne, I'll respond. A few main points-

1. National hero. A man of impeccable character and steadfastness.
2. Even as Cold War heated up, he oversaw the most impressive national infrastructure improvement projects that modernized what America is today. Interstate road network was vital to national interests and really spurred economic growth and interstate commerce.
3. He effectively muzzled McCarthy through diplomacy.
4. Was definitely a Conservative with national resources.
5. Effective across the aisle in passing legislation.
6. Cognizant and careful of the pitfalls tying economic interests to the 'Militart Insustrial Complex'. Never before was defense considered a 1/4 of the national expenditures. He was very aware of that potential

Eisenhower was a fine President and I understand why people would choose him. However, President Reagan stepped into much darker times. He, Margaret Thatcher, Lech Walesa and Pope John Paul II are the four consequential people who saved freedom in the world when it faced its greatest threat.

While Reagan helped finish the Cold War I would not say Reagan faced a more dangerous period than Ike.

If you look at the names of the voters, Reagan is the clear winner among conservatives and Eisenhower is the clear winner among liberals.

I didn’t say Ike had only liberal voters, just that he was the clear winner among the liberal voters.

Not sure that it really matters. I'm a registered Republican identifying as an Independent.

Problem is most of the far right posters here simply like to call anyone who doesn't agree with their version of GOP 'correctness'- a liberal. A very silly thing indeed.

The irony is the positions and policies that Reagan stood for would be considered 'left' of the current Republican far right view.
