The problem is, XI's people don't have the character and virtue to take over the world either. At some level he and Putin have to know that, while it's nice to see your enemies house on fire, if that fire also burns your house down, it's best to make sure no fire happens.

Some peoples have to lead, and Chinese may be there in 50 -100 years, they ain't there yet. Russia can't do this either.

All democratic nations were once culturally authoritarian......until they weren't.

The only thing Russia and China lack is pro democracy leadership. The populace and would be very receptive to it were it in their grasp.

Also thank god for George Washington. He turned down the offer to be King, an offer that looked guaranteed. Then he also stepped away from running a 3rd term(another guarantee), which sort of set the stage(unofficially) to limit Presidential terms to only 2.

The funny thing is ever since Trump was elected, all the Chinese people I know(born in China but live in USA) complain about him non stop. I just find it really hilarious that a person born into a Communist nation comes to America and complains about our President.

The usual censorship of any dissenting view, common to leftist governments the world over, is well underway now in China.

China drowns out critics of lifetime Xi presidency

Laurent THOMET
February 27, 2018

Beijing (AFP) - China's propaganda machine kicked into overdrive Tuesday to defend the Communist Party's move to scrap term limits for President Xi Jinping as critics on social media again defied censorship attempts.

The country has shocked many observers by proposing a constitutional amendment to end the two-term limit for presidents, giving Xi a clear path to rule the world's second largest economy for life.

The rubber-stamp National People's Congress (NPC) is certain to endorse the move next week, meaning that Xi -- already China's most powerful leader in decades -- can stay as president beyond 2023.

Li Datong, a former editor at the state-run China Youth Daily, posted a draft letter urging legislators to vote against the move -- which would abolish term limits set in 1982 under Deng Xiaoping to prevent a return to the decades of chaos under Mao Zedong.
"It was the highest and most effective legal restriction meant to prevent autocracy or putting individuals above the party and the state," said the letter. It was not sent to legislators but shared with hundreds of people in a private group on China's WeChat phone messaging app.

"Lifting the term limits of national leaders will be ridiculed by civilised nations all over the world and also sow the seeds of chaos for China," said the text posted on Monday.

WeChat users trying to share screenshots of the letter saw their posts blocked.

Censors have scrambled to delete all dissenting comments on social media -- even the word "disagree" is blocked -- but users of the Twitter-like Weibo website kept speaking out Tuesday, two days after the party Central Committee announcement.

"So pathetic, we have 1.3 billion people, no one can resist," wrote one user.

Just HOW can a military costing more than the next 7-10 nations combined be described as 'weakened'? Do we really get so little for our $$$? Sounds like the DoD needs to be audited PRONTO!

Or is calling it weakened just another baseless, opportunistic, cheap-shot created by ODS?

LAWL. Never going to happen.

China has no global military that can compete with the USA. Even the Russians are decades ahead of China in that regard.

And now their corrupt leadership, rather than accept the wishes of the people have turned themselves into dictators. Things don't bode well for the Chinese people in the future.

China has a military that is quite capable of defending itself, and missiles with the ability to reach out and touch us. Add in that it appears that they have rolled out a railgun on their most recent destroyer, and it appears they are ahead of us in that technology. The Russians have some things the Chinese desperately want-like decent fighter jet engines, but its a mistake to underestimate them. Especially in their own back yard.
