A Louisiana teacher who stood up at a school board meeting and asked why the superintendent was getting a raise while educators and support staff were not was ejected from the room by a marshal, handcuffed on the floor and put into a patrol car.
The arrest on Monday of the teacher, Deyshia Hargrave, was recorded by local media station KATC-TV, and a 12-minute version was posted on YouTube. It was widely shared, generating comments online that appeared supportive of Ms. Hargrave, who is listed as an English teacher at Rene A. Rost Middle School in Vermilion Parish on the southern Louisiana coast.
Ms. Hargrave and the superintendent, Jerome Puyau, did not reply to emailed requests for comment on Tuesday. Law enforcement officials also did not reply to requests for information.
Ms. Hargrave was arrested for allegedly “remaining after having been forbidden” and “resisting an officer,” Ike Funderburk, Abbeville’s city attorney and prosecutor, said in an interview on Tuesday night. But he said that after reviewing the now-viral video, he decided not to pursue charges against the teacher. A lawyer for the school board also did not wish to proceed with charges, he added.
“I have been to hundreds of school board meetings and I saw nothing from her conduct that was different from any of the others I have seen,” Mr. Funderburk said. “I concluded there was no criminal activity on her part.”
So no evidence of a crime.....and yet having a officer arrest her and detain her is ok? That sounds like false arrest to me. A crime.
Apparently being "out of order" at a school board meeting is arrest worthy? She looked like she was leaving....

It’s unclear if the marshal received orders from board members or if he was acting on his own. The deputy marshal is a school resource officer who works in Vermilion Parish schools.
