Read the article I linked, it clearly states that a letter from an attorney is not confirmation of an audit. He could get a letter from the IRS that would prove conclusively that he is under audit but he and his attorney's have chosen not to do so.
That article is also from March 2016, according to Trump he is still being audited, you have to wonder if the IRS has staff to do anything else with this audit going on for years. It doesn't matter, Mueller will have the records from Deutsche Bank and others. Remember Trump was screaming to not look at his bank records.
Two points: one, that article is from March 2016; is that audit still going on? Two, the article cites Mr. Trump's tax attorney as the source, not the IRS.
Regardless, it has been pointed out again and again that there is no legal prohibition to Mr. Trump releasing his returns, audit or no audit. I challenge anyone that believes releasing one's own personal tax return is prohibited by the IRS due to an audit, to search the IRS regulations, and link to it.
We actually have no evidence that he currently, or has in the past been audited. IRS won't disclose that so the only source as far as I know is Trump's statement. Is Donald Trump Really Being Audited by the IRS?
If he wasn't then he should win an award for the first large company/wealthy person to not be audited.

The only requirements for running for President involve age, residency and citizenship. Only paperwork to substantiate a candidate met those qualifications should have to be made public by any candidate. Obama didn't have to show his college transcripts, Clinton didn't have to show her speech transcripts and Trump doesn't have to show his tax returns. Now, political parties can add additional qualifications for a candidate to run on their party's ticket and then the applicable substantiation that the qualification was met would need to be shown but what qualification are you going to make that would require a tax return? The candidate must meet some income level? The candidate must have given X percent of his or her income to charity? You know exactly what this tax return business is about. It's about a bunch of Nosey Nancys, nothing more or less.
