The government owns the building in DC. No lease. There's also a museum in the building so I doubt the government gets rid of the building either.

You want your taxes to go for frequent flights to DC from all over the country on top of building and/or leasing new office space in multiple locations?

It's called video-conferencing and real estate is much cheaper outside of the Beltway area.

Do you know what agency owns the building?

That's not always an option. Anyone meeting with a committee of Congress must go in person. The cheapest real estate is real estate already owned and paid for. Why buy or lease more properties in multiple states when there's one building housing these workers already paid for?

I don't know the specific details on this particular building. It was built specifically for the DOI. But finding a dozen or more new spaces is going to cost more than maintaining one building, reason would suggest. Before all this disruption and money spending, shouldn't there be estimates from the CBO on what the costs would be versus the savings?
