"Lower class people from third world countries" 100 years ago were Italians and eastern and southern Europeans. And laws were passed in 1920s to restrict those people. And let's not forget the Catholics- they were pretty "undesirable," too. Hard to believe that we're going down that road again, just with new "undesirables" that the racists deem as such.
You're wrong about your history. Immigration restriction had nothing to do with keeping undesirables out. And today there is no reason for Americans to tolerate ANY immigration, except for perhaps the occasional spouse of an American who falls in love overseas. We do not need more people of any stripe. If Americans wanted more Americans, we would make them ourselves.

Many urban areas have s hole areas that are controlled by the dems/libs. They are run down, have high crime, and have homeless camping on a sidewalk or under a freeway.
Also the red states as a whole are growing at far greater rates than the blue states. Most blue states have negative domestic migration, only remain solvent through international migration. Americans as a whole have rejected tax and spend and this is BEFORE the blues states SALT deductions were removed.

We had a much different economy that was based on agriculture and manufacturing and did not have a vast welfare system like now. When you admit impoverished ppl to this country, you are taking opportunities away from native-born Americans.
I do think there needs to be real immigration reform. But I'd like to see statistics where immigrants have taken job opportunities from Americans. I happen to know Americans (family members) who have made it their mission to NOT work and have gamed the system. I have read numerous articles that talk about employers not being able to find the qualified people they need to fill positions.
One recent example is the coal miners. Coal mines are becoming obsolete, but many of the miners don't want to re-train in order to find a new career.
