The 30 000 to 50 000 figure is deaths from PNEUMONIA and the flu. Combined. Because it looks more fearful.
It's misleading, grabs headlines and feeds and supports the vaccine industry.

Yes and no. The statistics are related, because pneumonia is a common sequel to the flu.
That's why I said flu-related. The young man whose death so concerned the OP didn't die directly from the flu either. But it's hard to make the argument that he would have died anyway without first having had the flu.
I nearly died as a consequence of having the flu. I thought the flu was something I could just power through. It isn't.

Which is why it is incorrect to say people die from the flu. Because you can't make that argument.
The flu doesn't kill people. Pneumonia does.
So why aren't the headlines ... Pneumonia kills 30 000 every year? Which would be true.
The flu is bad around here, I wish people would stay home when they are sick. I had something, however my body didn't ache, so I don't think it was the flu. I'm not 65, but I just went in and got a pneumonia shot anyway. Insurance didn't cover all of it, but there is so much bad stuff going around I gladly paid up.
Sad. Pre-worout, energy drinks, drugs, anabolic steroids and similar substances damage body organs making illness more dangerous (not saying he did those things). Wash your hands, don’t touch your face, increase your vitamin D, and wear a mask on public transportation.
So very, very true. The supplements my husband puts into his body, I can't even think about taking.

However, there are differences between the US and Australia, a big one being that Australia only recommends the shot for kids under 5, adults over 65 and those with special conditions. IOW, working age adults are not recommended to get it, and most don't. The flu vaccine in general doesn't work as well on people >65.
It's been more than the dr I saw. There has been multiple dr's and nurses from the same practice. They have had people come in who have received the flu shot test positive for the flu more this year than last.

I’ve had pneumonia once in my life. When I had the flu. Would it be accurate to say I had pneumonia secondary to the flu? Yep. It would also be accurate to say I wouldn’t have had pneumonia if I hadn’t gotten the flu. Yep. That’s why I get the flu AND pneumonia vaccines. To lessen my risk of having either one.

I'll play -- because why did the 30,000 get pneumonia -- wait for it....wait for it....wait for it..
INFLUENZA.
LOL.
Exactly. Avoid the Flu = Avoid pneumonia = Avoid becoming one of the 30,000.
Saying the flu doesn’t cause these deaths is like saying the bus that ran someone down had nothing to do with their death because they died of internal bleeding. Sometimes correlation does imply causation.
