Of course we have poor people here. Most of them were born here. Did you have aristocratic ancestors that emigrated here? Or were they looking for a better life?

If most of the poor people here were born here, why aren't we helping them more? Why aren't we taking care of them? Where is your compassion for THEM? Why are you overlooking their needs for people from other countries?

Why not ask wealthy counties like Australia and Japan to take in more immigrants?

We can't afford the whole world.

I guess most of us wouldn't be here if the criteria was to stop immigration from any poor country.

Those countries take in lots of refugees. Why are you trying to make it mutually exclusive? Why can’t we help both groups? Isn’t that the point of a more perfect union?

What is "lots" to you?

In 2015, America took in 52,583 refugees.

In 2015, Australia took in 5,211 refugees.

In 2016, Japan took in 28 refugees.

In the last several pages I've shown you concrete proof of America's great generosity, both individually and as a nation.

It's time for other countries to step up to the plate and do more for these global issues. America is past time for a break. We do the most for the world yet take the most crap from it, too.

No they do not.

Australia refuses anyone arriving by boat, and has a points based immigration program.

Japan allows immigration but not refugees. Less than 2% of their population is foreign born. Islam is also outlawed in Japan.

Why can't we help both groups? We have limited money and limited resources.

Let's define a couple of terms first

opportunist - a person who takes advantage of opportunities as and when they arise, regardless of planning or principle
pragmatist - a person who is oriented toward the success or failure of a particular line of action, thought, etc.; a practical person

Trump is a pragmatic opportunist. Add to it his lack of filter, and this is what you've got.

He is not a racist. He just lives in the time and place where immigration, especially illegal, has become a problem.

If advocating for transgender rights were the platform to enable him to win the election and keep his base galvanized, there wouldn't be a more passionate transgender rights advocate than Trump. THe same goes for, say, black rights.
He would be the biggest supporter.
Believe me.

That’s not particularly believable. Trump is not pragmatic. He is not interested in the solution that works for the most people. He is interested in the solution that works for him the most. Especially if it feeds his insatiable ego. A pragmatist deals with things sensibly. Name one person that thinks Trump is sensible.

He is an opportunist though. Simply because, as all opportunitists, he is looking for personal gain over any shared one.
