There is a whole lot of "shooting the messenger" being done.
because they are unable to think past their political affiliation, and actually define themselves by it.

They want everything, to win, to dictate to others how they should live, freebes, they want complete control, telling people what to eat and what not to eat...how to live, speak, what to read.....and they follow people like Hillary and Obama, who are murderers.

LearnMe;I don't agree that post is anything close to "excellent," but taking it apart and explaining why I don't agree would take too long and just waste more time. Why? Because we all know the posts we like are those we agree with, and those we don't agree with are something else entirely. Right?
well then, challenge it, instead of saying you don't agree and it would take too long to explain. Hogwash.

I'm not the OP, but I can answer your question if you like...

Quote:
Any thinking person is not okay with corrupt governments and/or cultures. Not sure we need be "ashamed" of them, but most good Americans are not accepting of corruption -- anywhere. We'd like to think we are a country that is void of those problems here and able to help stem corruption elsewhere, but in both cases who can really be satisfied on either count?
you need to be ashamed of them, b/c those corrupt governments and cultures, represent their people, that's all...for instance, some things that my old boss used to say were ridiculous embarrassing and shamed his group, b/c he wasn't in it for himself, he represented us.

Quote:
We all want to be part of a country that leads us and the rest of the world in the right direction, and just because our history has some "wins" in that regard, we've been able to manage those wins because we've been able to identify where we still have work to do, whether here at home or abroad.
we haven't progressed, we've regressed...
what does that have to do with my post?

Quote:
Where we differ, why you think that post is "excellent" and why I find it misguided, is because we don't agree about what direction we should take when it comes to a lot of political and social paths, and we don't agree about how best to accomplish our goals. Some people want to blame all our problems on poor people, for example. Others want to blame rich people...
and what direction would you have us go in? First and foremost, some people want to blame all our problems on poor people, are you kidding me?

Quote:
Sorting through all those different perspectives would take longer than I have time for too, but maybe you get the point. If we can't agree on where we want to go, who we want to be, we find ourselves just accusing the other side of being un-American, unpatriotic, dumb or worse.
Than why even bother, you come into a thread and state that you disagree with someone who likes my post, now instead of disecting it and telling us why you disagree, you go off on some other direction, that doesn't have a thing to do with my post. But that is nothing new.

I hate to tell you this, but "love it or leave it" attitudes can cost you high quality talent. Even the national mythos says this when it says "Our ancestors were fleeing oppressive societies that hated us". France revoked the Edict of Nantes in 1685 - the edict giving official toleration to French Protestants (Hugenots). They fled to England, Holland, Germany, and the Cape Colony (part of today's South Africa - then a Dutch colony). Result: Brain Drain from France that would later enrich France's enemies. And this is before we get into the 20th century totalitarian regimes, which I assume I don't have to elaborate about.

Even within the US itself, this holds true. People fleeing the socially stifling environments of the Midwest and the South for California, a state that proved open to many different kinds of people and many different ways of thinking. Result: it's a major world center of "tomorrow's technology today" kinds of industries - the very kind that allow the US to have a first-world standard of living at all. Even within the "New South", these industries are located in the least conservative places (Austin, Raleigh-Durham, Atlanta).

So why in places like San Francisco, Seattle, Austin, and the NC Triangle and not - for example - in Cincinnati, Cheyenne, and Baton Rouge?

So "love it or leave it", where do you think our most independent-thinking (i.e. not beholden to tradition and convention) brightest people gonna do? They'll leave - taking with them their raw talents, creativity, thoughts, education, job experience, etc. that creates economic growth. "Love it or leave it" is simply self-defeating.

Anyways, if you are so ashamed, leave to a country like Haiti or the continent of Africa. I am sure you will love it.
Gov. McAuliffe (D-VA) said that in the context of Trump violating others physical space/boundaries. Normally I would be appalled that someone would say that about another public official, but Trump is simply incapable of showing even the basics of dignity and respect to people even moderately different from himself. He is creating a climate of hatred and bigotry (not just against minorities and foreigners) that threatens to tear our nation apart. So I have "the Trump exception" - he deserves every bit of discourtesy he gets (well, OK, most bits of discourtesy). He's a bully and a con-artist, pure and simple.

Oh, BTW, another thing about Trump.

He reminds me of that crazy dad or older brother at the pee-wee or JV football game who, when he sees his son or little brother who falters on the field, would explode out of his seats and scream "BE A MAN AND KNOCK HIM ON HIS ASS before i have to JUMP down there and WHIP SOME SELF-RESPECT INTO YOU!!!!!!!!"

I am deeply ashamed of today's America- no sane person can be proud of it in its present state. I am not ashamed of being an American, though, because a decisive majority of Americans did not vote for this ignoramus and the despicable characters that surround him. We fell victim to an archaic and undemocratic system of elections and that is the one reason I am not disgusted with my American citizenship. I take comfort in knowing that Most of my fellow citizens are better than this.

I think there is still hope for this country but it will not shine until the dark underbelly, known as "Trump's base", is denounced on every street and in every corner, denounced loudly and clearly. Every child in every school must be taught how this ignorant and hateful movement came about and what the fallacies in its thinking are. That must be taught like we teach basic English or Math. I know it will happen and that knowledge keeps me inspired. Germany did it, Italy did it, Spain did it and so shall we.

Let all of us who still remember the words "decency", "humanity" and "knowledge" do everything within our ability to peacefully un-elect all members of Trump's party and place it in the trash bin of history where it duly belongs! If we don't do it, then who will?
Really, role models for their sons? Role models should come from the father, grandfather, uncle, outstanding teachers/coaches, etc. I can't think of a single POTUS that I would want to be a role model for my sons.

I am proud of America, more proud than in many years. I am proud to vote for a President who has restored consumer confidence, decreased the influx of illegal aliens, let ICE finally do the job they are being paid to do, is POTUS when black unemployment falls to the lowest levels in 25 years, where we can fly the flag and be proud again and start looking after our own nation which has fallen into decay.

The hope came with the defeat of globalism/Hillary Clinton (and the Bushes).

I think you are going to be very disappointed over the next 7 years as we try to move the focus back to our own people and country.

The kind of anger you are spewing is troubling, not for a Trump supporter, but for yourself or others that this may harm in some way. Scary!

And there's the rub. Apathy elected Trump. A whole lot of people sat out on that election in 2016, because they were too busy with their smart phones or batch watching some Netflix series. We live in a nation that is becoming increasing unlikely to have even the most basic critical thinking skills, that have little understanding of history or how government works, that really don't comprehend how they inherited the freedom and prosperity that they enjoy. It's the perfect environment for an authoritarian/neo-fascist movement to take root and grow. It's going to take a major crisis to awaken the mesmerized proles out there, let's hope when they finally open their eyes that it is not too late.

But that’s the whole point: There is no major crisis in America right now. In fact, things on the ground are looking better than they have in many years.

Most of the complaining from the left has nothing to do with reality.

Americans got a tax cut. The economy is booming. Hispanic and African-American unemployment rates are at historic lows. The ISIS “caliphate” is destroyed. In the United States, MS-13 gang members are now afraid for their future, while American citizens finally have a sense their future is back.

Democrats want no part of this.

If that does not happen, then we will know that America was eroded away into the dust heap of history.
Restoration of traditional American values will take a civil war. The left will have to be destroyed, it’s poisonous values and worldview are metastasized to the point it cannot be fixed any other way. Make no mistake, these people are nothing like democrats of the past, we are not talking jimmy carter, JFK or Truman here. These people openly call for the removal of basic freedoms spelled out in the bill of rights, call for a new constitution, a socialist government and the enforcement of political correctness with hate speech laws. Destroying them is the only way to save the country, there simply are too many of them to win at the ballot box in the future. By 2020 the whole of the millenial generation will be voting. If nothing is done those enemies of America will legally seize the nation and transform it into a giant commune and safe space.

We conservatives in red state America need to start putting all our efforts into electing states rights conservative candidates to our state houses and governors mansions. A legitimate revolution should be led by the states, and it’s time we start voting for people who will be ready to act when the liberals up north and on the coasts seize the federal government. We need to accept we are reaching a point where we cannot win, we also need to not give in to thier vision for the country as what they want is contrary to American values. We have seen a glimpse of what they will do when they get power with all the demands for socialism, radical political correctness, tearing down statues and rewriting history, embracing perversions etc. Unless we conservatives are willing to live in thier world we need to stop concentrating on saving the doomed system we have today and begin focusing on what is to come. The first step is to make sure our state governments are ready to lead the charge. At least we should be able to save part of the nation, Maybe all of it if we win big. Once the battles leave the courtrooms and are to be settled on a real battlefield we will dominate them. People hiding in safe spaces make terrible soldiers. Make no mistake, this leftist movement is the biggest danger our country has faced since the civil war. If they win we will never be the same and we will no longer be part of the free world.

I'm very proud of our country right now despite what the left and some republicans think. The first time in a long while we have a president with a set of balls telling it like it is and the rest of the world to go pound sand if they do not like our policies. We've had in the recent past, presidents that just let the rest of the world walk all over us while at the same time taking billions of dollars in aid. Time to shut down the ATM machine to the world and tell them to go to hell if they don't like it. Many of these countries are s#$t holes that we are giving billions to in aid! where is that money going????
