Attached is an article by Ron Brownstein that shows the irony of Trump voters being anti-immigrant. They’re predominantly older voters who are expecting to draw Social Security and Medicare. To keep both programs, we need more young taxpayers. Immigrants account for about 88% of population growth. Without a growing base of workers, the safety net social programs will enter a death spin. We already have a tremendous problem with the cost of entitlement programs. Over the long haul, stopping or vastly curtailing immigration makes it worse.

Quote:
Without robust immigration, each American worker will need to support substantially more retirees in the future than workers do today. And that will greatly increase the pressure for either unsustainable tax increases or biting benefit reductions in the federal retirement programs that the older and blue-collar whites central to Trump's support rely upon so heavily.
Trump's hostility to immigration ignores one of the central dynamics of 21st century American life: an increasingly non-white workforce will pay the taxes that support Social Security and Medicare for a rapidly growing and preponderantly white senior population.

Again, not against IMMIGRANTS. Immigration, by definition is a LEGAL process. We are against ILLEGAL ALIENS. Just one reason being, they can not be vetted, and therefore pose a greater risk.

Actually, no. Trump and his supporters are seeking cuts to legal immigration as well.

If you mean the lottery, chain migration, and bringing in refugees from questionable countries, I agree. We need a better process for legal immigration, and a MERIT based system like most other countries have. However, the Left likes to lump in ILLEGAL ALIENS with legal immigrants, and that is plain wrong, and purposely deceiving.

Can we just follow the laws in this country and go from there?

The laws protect American citizens. Why is that so hard to understand?

We need respectful, lawful immigrants; not ILLEGALS! My God, liberals are low I.Q.

Read your diatribe, but didn't see where you mentioned illegals.

The fact remains that cuts overall will harm Social Security and Medicare.

As far as the lottery, yes, I agree with ending it. As far as “chain migration,” you realize that these other countries whose systems you tout actually consider family ties, right? That’s not to say I don’t support changes to our current system though.

As far as refugees, as long as we’re vetting them appropriately, we’re a very wealthy country and can handle helping some people out.
