If only we had a deal-maker in charge of this mess.

The fact that these people cause this shutdown tells me that they are more concerned with getting their way, than they are about America. Of course, I already knew that.

Nonsense. Federal employees don’t even get paid for almost another two weeks. No one has missed a paycheck yet.

My wife just got paid on this past Thursday, so I know better. Furlough papers go out today. But so far, no one has missed a single check.

Good luck with that.

Who is to blame for shutdown?

https://www.politico.com/f/?id=00000...9-1faef4310001 Republicans 41% Dems 36%

https://www.washingtonpost.com/page/...ml?tid=a_mcntx Trump and Republicans 48% Democrats 28%

and then there's this which might make 2020 not as wonderful for Trump as you seem to think it will be:

Poll: Almost half of voters question Trump's mental stability

Yeah. who cares about the military grunts getting paid for protecting this country when the important issue preventing them from buying groceries for their kids is keeping illegal aliens in the USA?
`
democrats sure know how to negotiate a federal budget bill! throwing in immigration reform as a mandatory issue makes immense sense.

If the Democrats, specifically Schumer/Pelosi want to absolutely remove any/all question about the Democrats being responsible for the shutdown all they have to do is remove any/all immigration issues from the funding bill.

Come out and publicly state "we are prepared to vote on a clean funding bill to end the shutdown".

It's really as simple as that.

They had a chance to take care of all these issues earlier. The Democrats suggested a clean DACA bill and the Republicans would not allow such a bill to come to the floor. Why, you ask? Because they wanted to use it as leverage against the Democrats and they knew if the DACA bill would be allowed to come to a vote it would have passed easily in both houses.

This is such a transparent abuse by the Republicans, that Kevin McCarthy is seen interrupting Trump on video at a recent meeting. McCarthy didn't want Trump spoiling their political shenanigans.

Trump seem to agree with Dianne Feinstein on DACA — until Kevin McCarthy steps in

This is the last chance for the Democrats to try to impose their will over the immigration issue. If the funding for the government is turned back on before the immigration issue (and DACA) is addressed, the compromise that eventually is produced will be a disaster for the Democrats.

In such a deal, DACA will be approved, which is what the Republicans are giving, and the wall will be at least partially built, border security measures will be strengthened, chain migration will be brought to a permanent halt and going forward, immigration will be merit based, rather than lottery based. Also, there will be no path to citizenship for those currently here illegally.

Trump will be able to claim success for immigration reform, for the first time in 30 years.

It will be regarded as a success and a fulfillment of Trump's campaign pledges on this issue by his supporters, and by most Americans. Even the Democrats will be somewhat mollified in that they will be able to claim success on DACA.

But it is chain migration, border security and merit based immigration policy that is what is really important here, and the Democrats will be forced to eat it from the hands of President Trump if they stand down on the shutdown, which they eventually will.

No matter how you spin it, democrats are shutting down the government, which is negatively affecting citizens, because of non-citizens.
