Democrats caved in. All news medias are reporting that Democrats caved in. Apparently, the Democratic party isn't as unified as they gave the appearance.

You get your DACAs if we get some immigration reform. You won't get them without paying a high price.

Schumer should open a laundry service, since he is so good at folding.

Except that he doesn't look bad at all. Ever heard the expression, "It's the economy, stupid?"

The President's first year in office has been amazing in terms of economic success. He certainly looks good to anyone with eyes to see. Everything that should be up is up, and everything that should be down is down!

Not only that, ISIS has been reduced to a small blot on the landscape compared with a year ago.

The democrats have lost control of their insane socialist base and are pushing more and more centrists to the republican party. Would not be surprised to see centrists like Tester, Manchin and Jones switch parties. The party has gone insane.

That's right 4 MONTHS AGO and Shumer is blocking every single one of them.

IF he and the rest of the dems in the Senate had done her jobs, we would NOT have had this fiasco in the first place.
What? As of December 7, 2017 the Senate hadn't even considered the appropriation bills, so how did Schumer block them?

Then Dick Durbin (D-IL) spoke up and pounded on the Republicans to keep their promise of a debate. That was particularly humorous after Democrats promised Reagan in the 1980s to strengthen the border, deport illegal alien criminals etc. if he would grant an amnesty to illegal aliens at the time; but then reneged on their promise after Reagan granted the amnesty. Plus the non-negotiation of the 1995 budget, where the Democrats simply waited for the Republicans to cave while the Dems didn't yield an inch (and the Republicans obediently caved while getting nothing).

It's a new era. Republicans actually stuck to their guns and kept offering the same compromises while Dems kept trying to "offer" paltry fractions of what the Repubs wanted.

What made the difference was the Republicans pointing out repeatedly and publicly, how untrustworthy the media was, always covering for the Democrats while telling only the bad stuff (and often outright lies) about Republicans.

For the first time in living memory, the Democrats had to listen to ad after ad, account after account, of exactly what they were doing and its bad effects on the country. And they knew they couldn't survive while such factual reporting was going on, so they caved.

It's a step in the right direction. Democrats' attempts to tie 6 years of amnesty for many illegal aliens, to a non-immigration spending resolution, failed.

May there be many more.
They caved because they realized they were tanking their chances for the midterm elections over a pack of illegal aliens.

It's more like a fracture. Certain members of the Democrat party favor very heavily DACA such in in southern CA. However, not all the Democrats are beneficiaries of such heavy handed support for DACA. This probably due to the low amount of illegals, Hispanics, or DACA's in areas that that vote for these Democratic politicians. In these areas, support the DACA, but not at expense of legal residence or citizens. That is the wedge that has form out this shutdown. The areas that support heavily DACA probably have a high concentration of people who know or have relatives who are DACAs. These people will fight to the bitter end. However, the people who don't know any DACA's probably aren't as invest in supporting the DACAs. That was the mistake of the Democrats and the one wedge that can be exploited to split or cause discord among the Democrat party.

The later group might be more receptive to a continuation of DACA, but the previous group might only settle for a permanent solution. Such an offer with republican concessions would put the Democrats on the defense not only against the republicans, but against themselves.

More time to educate the American public about the inadequacies of the current immigration system. Bit by bit, the issues being discussed, despite the best efforts of the pop media, will start to trickle out and more people will begin to understand what it is the Democrats are fighting to protect-bringing in more poor people to populate their new plantations.

Republicans and Right Wingers want Democrats to rubber stamp everything including nominees that are clearly unqualified for the job.

Hope they remember this when they are the minority party.
