I just can't phantom how Democrats will defend criminal aliens to the point where their actions will be responsible for shutting down the government. Seems traitorous to me. Isn't there something in the oath when they take office that mentions abiding by and enforcing the laws of the nation??
Of course the Republicans will pay - -they are the party in power.

It was the same when the Dems had power. When something failed it was their fault -- even when the Republicans refused to play nicely.

It is silly to expect it to be one sided, meaning...when Republicans in charge Democrats are suppose to roll over and just let them run the show.

Let's be clear though -- the Republicans can't agree within their own party right now and NEED the Democrats.

When you have a majority govt. and still can't pass your agenda because some in your party don't agree -- it's kind of funny to blame the opposition because they aren't on board.

It takes a 60 vote majority.

GOP doesn't have the numbers.

Let the Democrats threaten a shutdown. A) it's all on them, and B) they are Chicagoles with no guts.

I'm pretty sure this could have been avoided had Trump not flip-flopped (again) when presented with a bi-partisan DACA bill that he had agreed to sign only days before. Oops.

If the government shuts down, it will be because the GOP allowed it. The "freedom caucus fringe" are withholding votes on a continuing resolution. Remember, the GOP has majorities in both the House and Senate. If the GOP would stop trying to play both sides (many support allowing DACA folks to stay in this country) they could pass a real budget with support from both parties. Democrats are absolutely right to refuse any budget that does not resolve the DACA issue. These individuals were brought here as children. Many of whom know no other country. They did not break the law, their parents did. No one is suggesting the parents have a right to stay. DACA recipients been required demonstrate proof that they are pursuing their education or working to get continued status to remain. They deserve the opportunity to become legal citizens. Many in this country who oppose them are less productive members of society than the DACA recipients. I applaud the democrats for not giving in. This issue needs to be resolved.

While the Republicans control both chambers and the office of the Presidency, I recognize that, for the Senate, there will need to be 60 votes, meaning that 9 Democrats must join with their friends across the aisle.

However, I imagine that much of the public will tend to blame the Republicans, ultimately. Indeed, some will probably blame the 'deal maker', Donald JOHN Trump, for being rather inept.

Yet, let us not get ahead of ourselves. Recall the first line for the famed recipe for Welsh Rabbit:

"First, catch your rabbit".

The House does not labor under the Senate rules. A simple majority will suffice to pass such legislation.

Yet, from my readings, it appears that Mr. Ryan cannot be sure that some elements of his party are willing to pass a continuing resolution. If the House cannot pass a bill to send to the Senate, then the issue about the Democrats in the Senate is moot.

They will need to figure it out. They certainly had no trouble rewriting tax policy that penalizes blue states and colleges without Democratic votes. Republicans have created the environment and they control all branches of government. They not only wouldn't let Democrats participate in the health care bill, they would not even let women participate and there are more women than men in this country. Republicans own any disaster.

Nope.

They need 60 votes in the Senate.

But I say let it get shut down.......

Then we can expose the unnecessary freaking out over what is essentially a non event for what it is.

Much ado about nothing.

Right -- but they don't have the numbers within their own party. They can't agree within their own party.

That cannot be emphasized enough.
