After all the DACA kids were never promised automatic citizenship when they signed up for DACA; they were promised that they would have a renewable two year deferment period from deportation, and be able to work and attend school during that time so they could get their legal status cleared up.
In my opinion, President Obama did DACA kids no favors by the way he went about instituting DACA. It should have been a decision made by Congress, not the President.
And, also just my opinion, by President Trump also did the country no favors by his approach to DACA. He should have insisted that DACA *not* be tied into approving the budget.
Actually, I don't think that any legislation that is not dependent on budgetary funding should be tied into budget approval. It should be treated as a separate stand alone item so that we break out of this idiotic constant bickering in Congress every year when it is time to approve the budget.
The white house is insisting that? He said he's not going to do anything on illegal immigration until a budget is passed.

He also stated that if they brought him a bipartisan proposal on DACA and immigration that he would sign it. DACA was signed in 2012 because congress couldn't agree on an immigration policy, they haven't been able to come to a compromise on anything in 18 years. Even separating out DACA they have difficulty agreeing on a budget, that is why we had 4 continuing resolutions to date.
On another thread, Mad Jasper spoke of the need for compromise on the immigration issue, which according to him...well...read below.
I'm personally for DACA, and I detest the wall proposal. Even so, if politics is about compromise, perhaps immigration reform should be based on what I understand Canada's to be. Or accept DACA in return for tripling the size of the Border Patrol and its budget, plus likewise for ICE.
I know I'll **** off liberals by saying this, but if this is what it takes to get DACA through, I could be for such a deal.
No DACA ever. No amnesty. No compromise on that issue. All illegals must leave.

Most border security experts agree that more personnel is more effective than a wall. But, we might have to bring back the draft if we want to triple the size of the border patrol. The expansions authorized in the past have been unable to be completed because of a lack of applicants. There are hundreds of unfilled slots already. It is a crummy job in mostly s-hole parts of the country.
I would support a path to citizenship for any "dreamer" who has never been convicted of a crime and has never been on social services during their adult life. People say these dreamers are contributing to society but this is not true of all of them. Let those who are contributing stay and get rid of the rest of them.
The bipartisan compromise that Graham and Durbin brought to Trump would be fine with me. It would have been fine with majorities in Congress too if Trump had not reneged and torpedoed the whole budget process.
I'd support that if in included a end to chain migration, visa lotto, and a secured border with a wall well funded.
No compromise. They are illegal invaders that a have overplayed their hand. The American people voted in Trump to put an end to it.
