Seriously? You need that infamous Econ 101 course. They will raise prices along with everyone else to increase profit.
Or they don't raise their prices and instead squeeze a major competitor out of a very lucrative market, thereby.... wait for it.... increasing profits....
If they could've raised prices without harming demand they would've already done so, Econ 101.
Until the tariff was imposed they couldn't. By artificially raising their competitors price by 30%, they have been given the cover to do it now. Macro-demand will suffer a little bit on the margins. (People who don't NEED a new W/D will wait a little longer, etc.) Those who need one, will be forced to pay more, and those on the lower margins may be forced to do without now. Econ 201.
The goal of a Tariff is to get the other country to LOWER, or REMOVE THEIR TARIFFS on our goods. It is a negotiating tactic.
No. The goal is to artificially raise US consumer prices on imports to the level of domestic products. The thinking is that it would make domestic products look more attractive.
I hope retail stores advertise the price as they do now (tax-free), and add the tariff, and tax separately on the label, so consumers can see how the government is manipulating the prices, and how much money they grab from each purchase.
Guess you weren't buying ammo under the Obama administrstion...
3 online retailers shot a case of 855 to 999.99 2 stayed right at 325 per case of 1k and can you guess which retailers sold out first...
When something sells out, it means that demand exceeds supply. What does the "invisible hand" do to prices in order to correct that situation?
Ultimately, any business will seek the tangent. That is the price where they can maximize profits by selling most of their product at the highest price. To keep prices low, having constant out of stock issues is leaving money on the table, and shareholders won't stand for it.
At best, a few domestic W/D manufacturers may benefit from higher profit margins. That will benefit a VERY small percentage of Americans. The cost will be that anyone who buys a W/D (a much bigger number) will pay a higher price.
The tariff on Solar will not only result in us paying more for PV panels, but will also increase the cost of gas at the pump, electricity at the home, and other forms of energy, which are all affected in the same way as described above. It will ultimately affect the cost of manufacturing (major cost of manufacturing is energy cost), having a negative trickle-down effect on all consumer goods.

That is part of it, but this is in retaliation to THEIR tariffs, and if this hurts them enough, they will lower, or remove their tariffs. Don't be so short sighted.

It is what it is. Tariffs is not a new invention. I know you always want to put in some kind of positive spin for Trump, but the bottom line is that tariffs are NOT good for the American consumer.

That would make some heads explode - especially if they also see that line item on domestic machines made with foreign-manufactured parts, since parts are also included in the tariff. I don't think any domestic machines are made completely in the US anymore, are they?
LG and other manufacturers wasted no time raising prices to American consumers for new washing machines after Trump slapped tariffs on imports. I doubt Trump has ever done a load of wash in his life, but for millions of Americans who will have to replace the old washer this year it will come at a Trump premium of up to 20% more. That means millions and millions of dollars out of the pockets of the hard working middle class Trump purports to be looking out for. Nice work. MAGA!
Why didn't you complain when Obama raised tariffs for LG and Samsung washing machines?

That's not a tax increase. Try again.
