This is a disgusting story. A man with a lengthy criminal record ran over a family of 8 with his vehicle and killed the mother who was trying to protect her 6 children. If only this criminal was in prison where he belonged he wouldn't have been free on the streets and the mother would be alive today raising her family. Unfortunately the bleeding hearts insisted on giving him one parole after another. I bet it gave them the tingles knowing this violent bad guy was out in circulation. Now look what happened!

3 strikes and you're out would have protected this nice family from this subhuman killer. He had one violent felon (assault) and two other charges...another article said domestic violence and DUI. He was not fit to live in a civilized society.

I recently posted that we need more Americans incarcerated. Predictably that was a wildly unpopular idea...everyone thought I meant weed smokers...No I was talking about low impulse violent scum such as this killer. Now he will finally be locked up, what a shame it had to take this tragedy to cage him like the feral animal he is.

The judges who let the criminals out in these types of cases should be held accountable. He or she should get the same justice as the mother of these children. Were it my wife, he would, only slower.

I don't get the analogy.

3 strikes is a rule in baseball. Why would anyone assign a number so arbitrary to criminal justice?

Basically making a problem worse. IE overcrowded prisons.

If we weren't incarcerating so many people on non-violent offenses we wouldn't have to give softer sentences and early releases to the violent ones.

Yeah I've been coming around on this, especially for drug use crimes. They should go lighter on those crimes and go really heavy handed on crimes where there is violence.

What I have a real problem with is going easy on criminals who steal and vandalize hard working people's property. Yeah nobody got physically hurt but you have to protect your citizens first and foremost from others who are looking to violate others

There is also a downside to 3 strikes as in the case where a felon was sent away for life in CA after stealing a video tape. Laws should be well thought out, not some knee jerk reaction to one incident.

We are the most incarcerated country in the world, if that in itself was a cure for crime then we have failed miserably.

The problem with the 3 strikes you're out thing is even the tiniest of minor offenses can put someone away for life.
