And in news completely unrelated to this, here's a photo of Rick Perry giving the owner of one of the largest coal mine operations in the country a big old bear hug.
That's unrepentant a-hole Rick Murray, the guy who wanted the courts to ban a comedy show for pointing out that his company's practices killed nine miners.
Survey says more than half of the respondents do not have children or no longer have children in the home. 52% of those surveyed had a one or two member household. Most had a household income over $100K, however about 1/3 of respondents had an income between $50K and $100K. A strong majority of households also said that they have joint financial decision makers so both parties had to agree to making this decision. Residential solar system owners also tend to be highly educated. Most have an undergraduate degree and over half have a post-graduate or professional degree.
what ever foreign country (china, japan, etc) is UNDERCUTTING America, by producing the cells on slave labor
by putting a tariff on them we level the playing field
first solar cell patent... 1894 by an American
the tariffs level the playing field...it called bringing or expanding AMERICAN jobs
think about this... we could have expanded (through tariffs and grants/stimulus package) back in 09
I originally post this in 2010
Quote:
in 2008/09 when we spent 1.5 trillion on 'saving' failed companies and not so shovel ready jobs, we could have put a solar electrical system on each and every single family house. thus eliminating the need for residential electric companies ...making EVERY house part of the electric grid
if the stupid liberals actually wanted to, they could have done it back in 2008/9/10
solar has come a long way, and is quite efficient now, ((still has a long way to go, especially in the 'shelf life' of panels and batteries)))
did you know the DoD (military) has come up with a paintable solar...ie solar in a spray can... a can of spray paint (looks more like undercoating) and you can produce some energy.... still in the works, but looks good http://www.nsf.gov/news/special_repo...rayonsolar.jsp
I wish the liberals instead of spending 1.5 trillion on an unstimulating stimulus, and bailing out failed companies, would have said..lets spend that trillion+ dollars and put a solar electrical system on each and every single family home...this would have saved the average American home owner 200-500 dollars MONTHLY and would have eliminated the need for ''residential electric utility companies" and would have lowered our need of coal/fossil fuel for home energy.......once that program was complete, then look to expand to commercial properties .... this would have truly been a '''shovel ready''' job and put millions of construction contractors to work during the recession....... but alas the liberals aren't really interested in saving the economy or taking care of the middleclass...all the liberals are interested in doing, is lying to the populas and lining their pockets.
imagine if our liberals(who say they are for the environment ) had been smart enough to actually use that idea...every home in America would now be part of the energy grip producing energy...every home in America would be free of the municipal utility bills hitting them for 200/300/500+ a month for electric
not one politician (from either party) made even a remotely similar suggestion in the last 10 years.... Trump is actually doing something to improve...and right now tariffs are the answer...maybe someday we can have a spending package (like what we COULD HAVE done in 09) to help all americans, and tariffs will help the American business, help expand solar here in America...I am not worried about china, I want whats best for America
Trump puts 30% tariff on solar panels. 23000 will loose their jobs next year.
Lose. 23,000 will "lose" their jobs. Their employers may turn them "loose".
It's all conjecture, of course. No one knows how many jobs - if any - will be gained or lost by any one action. Maybe this will get the Chinese's attention.
At any rate, it will be balanced out by some of the 2.5 million jobs the economists estimate will be generated in 2018.

In a low tech business like Solar cell production, Trump is not doing this to increase production in the US.
The market will not buy American made cells, because they get as good from other places. If you want to state that US made is better, I would then argue that Chinese made is 90% as good, at 1/2 the cost.
The consequence of making Solar Cells 30% more expensive, is less panels is bought. Less solar farms is set up, less electricity is produced from the sun, in the US.
When you can put up a solar farm, almost anywhere in the world, and get a fixed return for the next 30 years, CHEAPER then building the dirtiest coal plant available, SOLAR wins.
Trump putting Tariffs on Solar cells, mean less Solar is being installed and more coal power plants are used in the US.
The rest of the world is going Solar, because its CHEAPER.
The U.S. solar industry generated US$154 billion in economic activity in 2016, including direct sales, wages, salaries, benefits, taxes and fees. Its revenues have grown from $42 million in 2007 to $210 million in 2017.
It will most definitely take a big hit this year.
