It is insulting to see those products locked up but I understand why they do it. Just because a few people steal, we have to all be punished.

Is locking up the most-stolen products in your store, "racist"?

Or are the people who steal huge amounts of so-called "black only" products, racist?

The answer is obvious, of course.

I don't view it as a punishment, more of an inconvenience. If I go to the grocery store for alcohol it is usually locked up.

I can see where they would want to keep a closer eye on things that are constantly disappearing.
Razors are frequently locked up. Baby Formula, expensive alcohol, etc. This isn’t racism, it is staying in business. It sure is inconvenient though. And that’s at many stores. I avoid WalMart.

And if I gave my opinion I would be called racist. We all know why they lock it up.

Locking up frequently stolen items isn't exclusive to WalMart. The drug store I'm forced to use locks up nicotine patches and condoms among other items.

Grocery stores lock up razor blade refills and real Sudafed. The last is embodied in law.
Yep, the Dollar General locks up a lot of items that can be easily stolen, not just African American items.

I rarely visit Warmart unless on vacation when it becomes a part of the local experience.

What products get locked varies store to store and is data driven. They know which products are more likely to be lifted by store, down, to the day of week.

Reportedly:

1 in 11 shoplifts with frequency, 1.6 x week.

Shoplifting is addictive.

Male and females shoplift with the same frequency.

The majority of shoplifters are adults.

The 10 most shoplifted items:

Meat

Razors

Baby Formula

Cosmetics

Alcohol

Laptops

OTC Medications

Smart Phones

Clothing

Baby formula is in the top 3 of shoplifted items and is specifically targeted by sophisticated, organized theft rings with inter- state trafficking.

Baby formula has purpose beyond nutrition. It is used to cut/ dilute heroin.
