Interesting how you have totally failed to understand this concept. In many ways this is is a purely Communistic approach. Communal pooling/sharing of the wealth to develop a health care system "free from profit-making incentives and constraints". Have you actually read the article?
As a Centrist the idea is a little TOO socialistic in many ways for me, and that may well prove to be the downfall of this idea in the end. But the good news is that is DISRUPTS the current Corporate Health Care Machine and that is exactly why you are hearing that oh-my-God unearthly scream from the health care giants, as evidenced by the 300 point plus decline on the DJIA today.

If it was controlled by the people maybe Having worked for an F100 company for the last 17 years I don't have much faith either, but you are right in looking at the CEO, to see how they treat their employees, in determining the likelihood of a positive outcome.
The idea isn't new. Think of the buying power of a Home Depot or Costco health insurance plan open to all.
This would be a Leftist's worst nightmare.
If we had companies that were really looking out for the best interests of the American public it would make sense. The sense of no loyalty to the workers of this country from Government officials, to Companies, and even Unions is the problem. Identifying companies who are good to us and the ones who treat their employees well is the key.
They are not the first to do this. Its worked well for the few companies that are large enough to do this.
I once contracted with a company that went 'self insured' and I did their work comp, well visits and 'walk-in sick' visits. They had a relatively young and healthy population so it was easier than trying to cover all ages and health spectra.
It can be done but it's more complicated contracting for Emergency department, in-patient care and surgical/specialty care.
A large corporation (or group of like-minded corporations) could save themselves AND their employees a lot of money on health care doing this. Heck, they could even buy a hospital and staff it if their population density justified it.
I'll gladly go to a hospital that knows how to control prices and provides quality care. Amazon could open or buy a med school and produce doctors at lower costs. Pay them a salary more on par with the rest of the world, in lieu of high medical school costs. I can just see it now:

Not just the insurance companies are ripoff artists. I include those doctors who own an imaging LLC that steers their patients to these places that charge $1200-$1800 for an MRI ...whereas in Canada, you'd pay $200 for the same thing! If the Amazon group owned those machines, how long will those over-priced Imaging Groups last? Too bad, so sad Doc!
And don't get me started on the drug prices. When I started taking blood pressure meds, CVS would charge $20 for a 30 day prescription. Walmart charges me $2.88 for a 90 day refill. The difference ...Walmart's are made in India and CVS's were name-brand American-made. I'll cry all the way to the bank with the savings! Time to "outsource" high medical prices!
It's certainly time for 1)The ability to buy prescription drugs from overseas and 2) for the US Gov't to set the prices that Big Pharma can charge for their drugs...just like the rest of the industrialized world. Gov't should negotiate those prices just like the NIH in the UK.
Take the profit motive away from all medicine and health insurance companies and practices, and you'd cut a lot of costs down.
