Seafood is part of a typical Italian diet as most Italians live somewhere along the coast or close enough to the coast. Italians have one of the highest life expectancy in the world. I've spent months at a time in Italy and ate seafood almost every day.
Italians on the boot don’t eat nearly as much seafood as Sardinians. Sorry...they just don’t. I lived in Veneto for 2 years, and although they occasionally indulge in a fish meal from time to time, fish isn’t served that often.
In fact, if you live north of the Po with the exception of seaside cities and towns, seafood meals are a relative rarity. If you live south of the Po, it’s eaten far more often. But NO group on the boot eats as much seafood as Sardinians.
Again, Sardinians aren’t really Italians, and have never thought of themselves as such. Even when they serve in the Army, the Sardinians generally serve in their own units. Their language isn’t even really mutually intelligible to most Italian speakers.

San Marino is close enough to the water where I’d expect them to have a fairly generous seafood diet. They’ve got some great beaches within less than an hour from there. My girlfriend and I used to spend some weekends down in Rimini back when you could just camp out on the beach all weekend and avoid paying for a hotel (although hotels were cheap before the Euro) or an albergo. The local Polizia Municipale wouldn’t even bother you back then if you pitched a tent. Not anymore.
Italy is a mishmash of languages. Even as you say on the mainland. I learned fluency in the Veneto region, but that’s almost useless in Calabria, Campania or Sicily..,or ANYWHERE south of Rome for that matter. Italians have some rough dialects. I’ve always maintained that Italy is a country that really isn’t a country, but a nation held together by a few common cultural traits,a somewhat common cuisine, the Catholic Church, and a barely common language. But an Italian from Calabria has about as much in common with an Italian from Trentino Alto Adige as he does with a Czech. It’s one of the most provincial nations in the world.

It is not cheap, the houses are not much more than shells, & you have to refurbish it within 3 years, expected, to cost in the region. of $25,000. ( from the article. Plus I have no desire to live on a small island.

Italy is a mixed bag. It has both elements of Capitalism and Socialism. For example it has universal health care but then again so does every civilized country in the world except for the U.S.
Either way, it's stunning to see so much incredible architecture and exquisite art in one country. And the food isn't bad either!

I went to Italy last year for our anniversary. Great place, friendly, a lot of people speak English. If you make an attempt at Italian, you are respected. The people are willing to help you with the language.
