It shouldn't be a shock to anyone or even debatable that people with a whole lot of power can/

Nunes has been the most vocal critic of the Page warrant and even went so far as to mislead the American public by suggesting that information from the Steele dossier was provided to the judge without any indication that it was collected by a politically motivated source. Despite all of his protestations, he not only failed to question the FISA procedure, he approved its renewal without a peep. This should tell you all you need to know about the FISA system and whether members of Congress believes that too much latitude is given to FISA judges or applicants.

i actually hope that this becomes a catalyst for changing the rules on granting a FISA warrant. i'd like to see the standard raised beyond "probable cause".

Not really... There's very likely ongoing investigations of foreign agents. Can't just bring that all to a screeching halt without threatening national security.

HOWEVER, the current spotlighted abuse of power by Obama's FBI/DOJ and the DNC needs to be exposed, with prosecutions for crimes found to have been committed.

The standard beyond 'probable cause' is 'beyond a reasonable doubt' in which case the information would be known and an arrest could be made without the FISA warrant. Probable cause is the criteria for issuance of any search warrant in the US.

we have "preponderance of the evidence" between the two which is sufficient in a civil case but not enough for a criminal conviction.

Clinton henchman Blumenthal was feeding information to steele for his dossier? this is getting pretty interesting.
Yes, Clinton operatives were feeding false information to both the FBI, and State Department that was being used as justification to investigate the Trump campaign.

This is as bad as it gets, there is nothing legitimate about this Russian collusion investigation.

In short, Title 1 FISA surveillance is the most intrusive, exhaustive and far reaching type of investigation the FBI is permitted to conduct.
The allegation of another poster was that this "retroactive" warrant would have allowed the FBI to spy on the Trump Campaign (at least that was the topic then being discussed). Can you get from what you've written to that statement?

we have no idea what the information was and, currently, no way of knowing if it's true or false.

would you still be upset if the clinton campaign gave factual information to the FBI and state department?

I could find earlier reports and multiple leaked stories, but you've got your agenda and are sticking to it.

I don't recall seeing any news stories about this investigation before the election, especially no public announcement from the FBI.

Be good to see where all this information was being relayed to the public.
The way I remember it is that after the Comey sent his Clinton letter on October 28th Harry Reid started having a fit about the Russian investigation being kept quiet and slipped out some sort of general reference (the source for the CNN article? on November 1?). Clinton danced around the subject during the last (?) debate. The first mention of the FISA warrants came (I believe) from Louise Mensch, again the day or so before the election.

It's possible that there was blogger speculation which is what jazzarama may be remembering but my take is that GHQAIC's point stands --

How could the FBI be using the Russian investigations to influence the outcome of the election when they never made the information public? The investigations started mid-summer.

You are familiar with the Title 1 FISA warrant against Buryakov.

Care to elaborate why the FBI could not use the same investigative methods in the Title 1 FISA warrant against Carter Page?
