No.

Everyone should get a day in court. I am very knowledgeable about our country's vigilante history in regards to lynching of black Americans, Italians, Irish, Greeks, Latinos, Chinese, etc.

Many people were killed based solely on what someone said or because of people's prejudices.

Vigilante justice is just lynching.

Or a guy rapes a mans wife/daughter and gets off and similar thing.

In cases such as you describe...IMO, justified , yes. I'm not sure I could see someone who had hurt someone I love just walk on some glitch in procedure. However if you do take such a matter into your own hands there will be a price to pay. In most cases anyway. There have been a few similar circumstances where there were no charges brought.

It might also be hard to find a jury willing to convict someone for such a thing.

Yes. Once people decide it's their place to dole out justice, it's only a matter of time before they start deciding, on their own, what punishment is appropriate, and for what offense.

Now should we go after the messed up Justice system, probably.
But, is as you say, "OJ and that illegal alien in SF got away with murder", aren't those areas where NO justice was available?

Just as long as you and yours aren't the ones being publicly hanged or stoned to death, eh?

Nope, shouldn't even be a question asked in a civilized society. There is no room for it, period. Change laws and actually enforce laws.

Vigilante "justice" never makes sense. To go outside our system of justice for any reason undermines the rule of law. All you have to do is to pick up any history book to understand what happens in a lawless state. It might make the person who executes this "justice" feel better for a short time but the risk of damaging the system that protects us is far too great. It's possible of course to change the law if justice is not being served for some reason. We do it all the time, that's the way our system works. All told it works pretty well.

Yes, it is justified, but I'll clarify with 2 points...

1. The government and the citizens need to be held to the same standard. The government is not special, and doesn't hold a monopoly on justIce. In fact, it commits injustice very frequently. You have every right to defend innocent people from criminals, the same way the government does.

2. Even though regular people have the same rights as the people in government, we understand the importance of due process and other legal standards. If any person, citizen or government, wants to enact justice, they need to make sure they're following those standards to prevent mistakes.

The goal everyone has in mind is for justice to be served, and for it to be served accurately. A citizen may be more prone to making a mistake, but that has no relation to rights. It's like saying the government should only have guns because some citizens are irresponsible with them.

The state is made up of the same imperfect people that make up the citizenry. Both can do it the right way, and both can make mistakes.
