If he has enough to nail him, he has no need.

So Trump gets a pass because there is "no political upside?" Really?

Every American "gets a pass" because...well..5th Amendment.

Trump is an American citizen same as you or me. He has no requirement to testify against himself, he has no requirement to prove his innocence, and he has the right to counsel. His counsel has the ethical duty to point out that submitting t an interview with any federal agent in any capacity is a perjury trap, same as if you or I had lawyers and were being asked to submit to an interview.

There is no upside for ANY American citizen to submit to an interview with a federal agent. Zero. None. It has nothing but downsides, and there is no legal or constitutional requirement to do it.

You guys want Trump's skin on the wall an you know the easiest way is to get him to perjure himself. That's what all this is about. Just admit it FFS.

In the US legal system, everyone is innocent until a successful prosecution proves otherwise beyond a reasonable doubt.

I'll quote it one more time:
  • You are not going to talk them out of whatever they want to pin on you.
  • They have evidence on you already.
  • Nothing you say will change their mind or end the investigation.
  • There is nothing you can say in an interview that your attorney(s) cannot say for you
  • If something in an interview will exonerate you, your attorneys can communicate that for you
THERE IS NO UPSIDE TO THE INTERVIEW, AND THERE IS NO REQUIREMENT TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS.

If Mueller has something on Trump, then charge him and prosecute. Why interview him if not seeking a perjury/obstruction trap?
Cold day in Hades, because I agree with you, at least in principle. Trump is doing the logical thing in turning down the interview.

I could care less about Trump specifically, believe me.

I just abhor the concepts of "guilty because accused" and "must prove innocence." Our legal system does not work that way, and we go down a very dangerous road if we allow even the slightest abuses to civil liberties within the legal system.

I get that people hate Trump and I totally get why they hate him, but if you cannot defend the civil liberties of eve those you hate, then you cannot defend civil liberty at all, period. A sit down, please_speak_freely interview with Mueller is a freaking perjury trap, plain and simple. It was for Martha Stewart, it was for Bill Clinton, and it is for anyone who a) is dumb enough to do it and b) even dumber to have such craptastic lawyers that would allow it.

Everyone wants Trump's skin on the wall, but they don't realize all the tyranny precedents they'll be setting in order to get it. Down the road, they'll be shocked as this super awesome suspension of civil liberties comes back to bite them on their arse. And it will only get worse and worse.

I fight for the every day individual who has barely any civil liberty left. Trump is simply a placeholder for the discussion, not the discussion itself.

I would advise President Trump not to agree to an interview. President Trump frequently uses hyperbole to make a point. Example: He could say, "Millions of people attended the XYZ event." Mueller would produce the official count by the Park Police that says the number attending was 978,250. Then every media outlet and Mueller would say that Trump was lying to the Special Prosecutor. Trump used "millions" to mean "a lot." Hyperbole. That's how they would "get him."

He could say, "God was smiling that day when I did ...." and some Democrat would say, "He can't prove there's a God or that the God was smiling." He's a liar when all Trump meant was that he did something good that worked out for him.

Looks like this thread has pretty much proved Trump's lawyers to be correct in their fears.
