This is so true, Kelly has lost my respect entirely. There really is no adult in the white house to watch over the Toddler-in-Chief, only enablers.

yes so true, wonder what the motivation is to become unhinged and protect and shield an obvious abuser

Did this admin ever hear of the concept of vetting?
I imagine the vetting conversations go something like this...

Investigator; well this Porter fella has smacked around his first two wives.

Secretary of Vetting; well compared to the president, he should be OK.

For anyone interested, this Federal link explains the Security Clearance Clearing Process: All About Security Clearances

Although this link is from the Dept of State, the same process is used for all Federal departments, although not all Federal employees go through the process because security clearance isn't required for their jobs.

There are different levels of security clearance; the higher the security level needed for your job, the more in-depth the screening process.

While people can be granted a temporary or interim security clearance while the investigation is being done, it is unusual for people who haven't passed the security screening to be allowed to continue to work in positions requiring a clearance.

It would be a neat trick to do a job where classified information is discussed, handled and used as part of the position, and not have clearance. Although, it sounds like in Porter's case, the administration found a way.

And, as far as I know, the person's supervisor or department head will always be informed of the results of the screening when a person does not pass the screening for the level of security deemed appropriate to the position.

By the way, if security clearance is granted, it isn't forever. It is re-examined periodically, usually every five years.

Unfortunately, the allegations are unsurprising given the behavior of this administration and its supporters. Grab a p*ssy, cheat on wife with porn star, pick up teens at malls, punch a spouse...the Trump base hold these near and dear to their hearts. It’s no surprise many see them as deplorable filth. But there is no need to state the obvious.

On another note, Raj really bombed that press briefing. Wow, talk about inept.

Just want to add that if you want to dig even deeper, you can find the National Security Adjudicative Guidelines for Determining Eligibility for Access to Classified Information or Eligibility to Hold a Sensitive Position here:

Raj Shaw is another LOSER. He was fired by GOP New Mexico Governor's candidate (Susana Martinez) when he was her campaign spokesman after he was arrested and charged with DWI.

That trump...he picks the BEST people! Winning!!

Latest from USA Today:

White House officials refused to explain Thursday why Chief of Staff John Kelly and others allowed Rob Porter to stay in his high-profile job even after his security clearance was held up over allegations of domestic abuse by two ex-wives.

"His background investigation was ongoing," White House spokesman Raj Shah said of Porter, the former White House staff secretary. "His (security) clearance was never denied, and he resigned."

Shah called the allegations that Porter abused two ex-wives “serious and disturbing” but maintained that Kelly and President Trump were not fully apprised of the "full nature" of the accusations – including pictures of a woman's black eye – until Wednesday.

Shah would not detail when Kelly and others first learned of the allegations in general in which ex-wives Colbie Holderness and Jennifer Willoughby accused Porter of physical and emotional abuse. He noted that Porter has denied the allegations, and continues to do so.

Shah told reporters the alleged abuse took place long before Porter’s time in the White House, and therefore would have been investigated during the initial part of the background check process.

Porter, meanwhile, was operating on an interim security clearance. “We trust the background check process,” Shah told reporters.

From the Federal link on Security Clearances I provided earlier:

In exceptional circumstances, the hiring office may request an interim security clearance. The Office of Personnel Security and Suitability may be able to grant an interim security clearance within a few weeks after the individuals has submitted a complete security package. Final clearances usually are processed and adjudicated in less than 90 days.
