Again, correlation does not equal causation. I would be willing to bet $1,000 if punishments were strict with clear guidelines and with stringent follow through, we'd see better-behaved kids. Additionally, giving kids responsibility helps with discipline as well. Too many kids today are treated as if they are idiotic dullards who can't be trusted to do anything for themselves.
I see it every day. People do not even assign chores around the house to their kids. The kids are treated like toys. People ignore how much kids learn by the time they are 4.
Household chores inform kids they are part of a unit and they have duties to that group.
All mine knew the rules and what happened if the rules were broken.

Actually , when schools that still use corporal punishment have less discipline issues than ones that don't, there is plenty of evidence of causation. You just don't want to admit it, and will look desperately for any other excuse, that's all.
