Nobody is keeping them from buying what they want to buy. They just have to provide the money themselves. I think it is a great idea.

I somewhat get what you are saying. At the same time, I think teaching inmates to be self-sufficient, or even partially self-sufficient, not only saves the tax payers (you and me) money, but it teaches inmates life skills they may not learned otherwise and just the psychological effect of producing.... that someone that may have committed a heinous crime and is otherwise worthless to most people can be still be valuable... it has to be good for society.

This in an unfair comparison. I fully support the use of tax payer dollars to assist those who are unable to fully care for themselves in living a good life, not just a mere existence.

I am not disabled in anyway and I do not possess the mental capacity of Stephen Hawking. To somehow correlate that a disabled person should possess that ability because they are disabled is absurd.

Agreed. Curious as to what country you live in? This thread is about the United States and your comment doesn't apply.

The real question is who suggested this to the Trump administration and how will they profit from it? Follow the money.

Majority of these folks voted for Trump. Take their food stamps and give them beans and rice. That is how Trump will thank you for your vote.

But seriously..

Account for a family without a stable address. Or a family that's effectively homeless. Or a family that has their 'food parcel' stolen from their doorstep. Or a package that's lost in the mail.

Guess Americans can starve so you can live out your ignorant Randian fantasies, eh? Republicans are supposed to be about individual choice. This is giant step away from that. (And it's patronizing as hell to boot.)

When Michelle Obama wanted to add veggies to kids meals and reduce the amount of prison food we feed them in school, republicans had seizures on TV about how the un-elected wife of a socialist moose-lamb Kenyan wanted to tell Murikans what to eat!

So tired of republican bs. They've never wanted bipartisanship, they just had to pretend until Trump came along.

SNAP person buys soda and junk and they get criticized for wasting their benefits on food with low nutritional value. SNAP person buys lobster and steak and they get criticized for using their benefits on things that have too high cost.

blah.

I remember the hard time so many posters on the right, gave Michelle Obama about her lunch program. That we don't want her telling us what to feed out kids, they hated that.
