It's all diplomacy and protocol. Doesn't matter if "the other side" chooses to or not, or how they are.
He should have stood, as he should for all countries (it's the Olympics and you're standing for the athletes and the Olympic ideal), but no diplomatic handshakes.
Have we ever NOT stood for a country's athletes before? And by the way...the South Koreans....who potentially have much more to lose in this than the US could ever dream of....not only stood but also applauded.

Diplomacy might always be somewhat hypocritical and even bordering on b.s., but I long for the days when people once understood protocol and comportment.
^^^^^^^Has Russia threatened us with nuclear missiles since the Cold War ended? Did Obama not have dealing with Putin, and told Medvedev to tell "Vlad he'd have more flexibility AFTER the election." If that isn't collusion, I don't know what is.

You act as if he pelted the Koreans with rotten fruit and expletives. The man sat quietly and respectfully.
Where was your diplomacy in seating that genocidal witch behind him?

Respectful would have been to stand up. He didn't even need to clap.
