The only problem with Couric's remark is that she said "is" instead of "was". And I don't believe anyone was actually offended, rather, a few Dutch on the internet took the opportunity to get a shot in at a "dumb American".
do you mean a former president of the united states who chose an artist to paint his formal portrait for the Smithsonian who specifically said he has painted portraits that represented "kill whitey"? as a white American, I found Obama's, the former American president, choice of an anti-white 'artist' pretty damn offensive.
while I appreciate your sentiment, courtesy and decorum are not priorities for "high profile people". crudeness, rudeness, and outright hostility dominate our celebrity and political landscape and we, the people, have allowed it. hell, many americans demand it. shameful behavior, I agree, but don't feign shock. offensive is 'in'.
Where did you get the opinion that I feigned shock?
Approx two decades ago, Americans would ask me about Windmills, wooden shoes and Keukenhof (tulips, etc).
Approx. a decade ago the remarks and questions were about coffee shops and first country to allow gay marriage!
For that reason, I wasn't offended by Katie's dumb remark and laughed it off as Holland is kind of a weird country and nothing like it used to be with the beauty or the old cities, etc. Now it is like you are in the middle east with Arabic signs every where, flea markets where you see Burka's and gay's being afraid to be attacked, while a decade ago, gay people had freedom at their feed and nobody cared about their sexual preferences.
Holland/The Netherlands, is ruining their own country and it is sad to witness.
Katie is one of my least favorite nationally known interviewers or journalists. her style is so passive aggressive. she doesn't even feign impartiality with the person she interviews or in her reporting. she smiles beguilingly through her shark teeth as she rips the subject's skin to shreds and gets huffy if the person she is unfairly assaulting calls her on it.
It sounds like someone is still upset that Couric exposed Sarah Palin's idiocy for the whole world to see.
I’m not a huge fan, but everyone knew what she meant. Much ado about nothing. It’s fun to see the useless media eat one of their own though.
What did she mean? It's not like there was any room for misinterpretation.
I didn't find it offensive, just completely clueless. If she had thought about it for a second, she would realize how unbelievable it sounds.
