The thread is about the fact that they selected a painter who advocates killing white people...or was that to difficult?
Again, your teachers would be very sad to find out that you think that's what this quote means.
Quote:
It’s sort of a play on the ‘kill whitey’ thing,” Wiley said in a 2012 interview with New York Magazine. The operative word is “play.” What is all too easy to miss on a cursory glance is the deeply conceptual nature of these works.
Claiming that the artist advocates killing white people is quite simply a lie.
Obama should have known better than to go with this artist or his handlers should have known. Obviously the artist's background and portfolio would come out...or did he think no one would care??
Although one might be able to argue it's 'art' and has deeper meaning, one could also argue the painting has a more insidious 'face-value' message as we see on this board.
The painters past work struck me as work that should have plainly rendered this artist an inappropriate choice.
Playing Devil's Advocate...I guess people can raise up their confederate flags back since it's all open to cultural interpretation and who cares what a large percentage of people might feel about it?

"Killing whitey" (artist's own words) is a lie? How so.
