the Air Force, the Army the Navy The Marines many times fly the SAME planes and helicopters.
they may fly the same TYPES of aircraft, but not the same aircraft. the air force flies a wide variety of aircraft, from F15s and 16s, to A10s, to C130s to C5 galaxys, etc.
the navy has fewer types in their inventory, but they are more specialized, like teh marine corps.
the army has NO fixed wing aircraft anymore, only helicopters. and speaking of helicopters, the army flies the apache, where as the marines use the cobra. both effective attack choppers, but the cobra being a bit more compact fits better on the marine assault carriers.
and it is true that the navy and marines use the F/A18 hornet and super hornet, they do have different missions. the navy does strike packages AND fleet defense, the marines do primarily close air support and defense of their strike packages. the nice thing about the hornet is that they can do both at the same time.

Talk about sh*****g on your brothers...
no the marines dont claim they won the pacific war single handed. however, the army bogged down the marines in the island hopping campaign. the marines would charge up an island, with the army in support. but because the army tended to move more slowly, the marines would have to wait for them to catch up before they could move again.

What would happen if the Corps were disbanded? Nothing, absolutely nothing. Well except for one less uniform to have homo-erotic fantasies over.
Is the military ever going to be pared down? Nope. Is the military budget ever going to have meaningful cuts? Nope.
Americans have been properly propagandized and those few who dare speak truth are shouted down.
There is one hope, all empires fall and we are an empire. I just hope im around to witness it.
Marines is a branch within the Department of the Navy. They are the infantry of the Navy.
If you have a Navy, you will always have the Marines. The military is part tradition, so the Marines will always be there.
The tactics and mission might change with time but that branch will always exist within the Department of the Navy.
This. I grew up next to Miramar in San Diego and the Marines were the guys at the gates. Miramar has since transformed from Navy to Marine. They were bad ass then and they still are today.

You seem to like making bold statements but also never back up any of your claims.
How do you know nothing would happen if the Marine Corps "disbanded"? Are you trying to tell us you know more than our military leaders?
Something tells me they know more than you do, and that there is a logical reason why the Marines still exist.

you must really hate america.
I love america and love freedom, which should never be confused with loving the federal government.

as someone once said
marines come in two breeds, rotweillers and dobermans.
some are big and mean, some are skinny and mean
but they are all aggressive on offense, tenacious on defense
they all have short hair and always go for the throat.
I love america and love freedom, which should never be confused with loving the federal government.
If you love America so much, which I am beginning to doubt at this point, then you should also be intelligent enough to realize the value in having a strong military to defend it.
Libertarians seem to have their collective heads in the sand regarding what is going on around the world right now, and how it could affect us if we let our guard down.
I love america and love freedom, which should never be confused with loving the federal government.
then you should be in love with the marine corps. they are our first line of defense. they stand ready as a first responder when america needs them. i like the army also, but they are a slower reacting force, that needs time to get going and get things in place before they wind up, the marines give them that time.
and i agree with you on the federal government. i think they spend far too much money, and have far too much power over the country as a whole. far too many things the federal government does would be far better handled by the states.
and if you were to read the constitution, you would find that the founding fathers required that congress provide for a strong navy to defend the sea lanes, and that also means a strong marine corps, since the marines were originally the ship board defenders, and the navy ground troops. the army was supposed to be supplied on a part time basis by the states through the state militias.
so if the feds should get rid of any portion of the military, it should be the army and the air force, not the marines.
