My daughter is in her second year of an acting theatre class on Saturdays. The class is mixed between boys and girls. Last year, the weekend after Vday, the kids invited their father or mother to join them for a dance during class. My husband was invited by my daughter. I just assumed this year would be the same. No notice was given so I just forgot about it. I hear through the grapevine of catty mothers that the reason they are not doing it this year is because the transgender boy's (who relates as a girl) parents took issue because they do not yet know their sons (daughter?) sexual preference and felt it would put a strain on him when having to decide who to invite. So they just scrapped it. Fine with me and my husband but just thought it was odd. The kid is 4. Just have him pick a parent. Its not like he is picking a future mate!

Many of my friends posted father-daughter dance pictures from their elementary schools. And they live all over the country. The story in the OP sounds isolated. Maybe the furious reactions from parents will be taken into consideration next time.

My daughter's school has never hosted one of these events.

Why do you say such Anti-Trump things. He actually said he would date his own daughter. To each their own, I suppose, but if Trump wants to date his daughter, who are you to stop him. Maybe it will keep him away from the booty-spanking hookers, and save us tax-payers $130k next time.....

I've always thought father/daughter dances were weird. Not evil, just odd. If, as many people say, it's about learning to dance and how to treat a date with respect, why aren't there any mother/son dances?

We still have father/daughter dances in my town. At the high school as well although those are not as well attended.

There's a companion event for mothers/sons. I think they do different activities every year (elementary kids).
