If you are talking about the psychiatrist in either of these cases being able to relay info that may have prevented him from purchasing a gun, I see that more as a background check than a health care issue.
I am in favor of medical professionals, LEO and possibly teachers being able to petition a court to invoke due process to prevent someone mentally unstable from purchasing a weapon.
Oh Christ, not teachers. Report up the chain maybe but, no. Just no.
I had a colleague who taught Creative Writing that gave an assignment to write a "scary" story. The kids did. She had one particularly creative kid in the class and his story scared the living **** out of her. So she reported it. Nothing came of it except that poor kid was dragged through the wringer for about a week.
We also had kids, quite a few, who wore long coats to school. Not class, they had to go into their lockers. Well, right after Columbine the order came down from a Vice Principal that the kids had to stop wearing them. But just the White kids. The VP asked me to communicate that to them because, after all, they were "my people". My response was a variation of "go pound sand". Got a Teacher Compliance write up for that. One of many from her.
But all the kids ended up being allowed to wear long coats to school.

As would be both sides but instead of working towards something that might bring both sides together and might actually get done we will fight over something that isn't going to change.
If you listened to Rush this morning, a Minnesota councilman said they put one cop in an office in some schools. The reason being their police station is too small to accommodate everyone. So it's win-win.

Why are cops sitting in offices? Unless they are an investigator or supervisor I've never even heard of a cop having an "office", their "office" is usually their patrol car
I'm no gun expert but a standard run of the mill 30-06 will do far more damage, more lethal and you can get at least a 30 clip magazine.
did you even read the article. at least "hear" what an expert- has to say- and the writer IS an expert on various types of bullets/ wounds.
