There always is with these cases. I haven't heard this one yet but eventually some "Einstein" will say why didn't the cops shoot him in the leg or shoot the gun out of his hand.

As if cops are all sharpshooters.

It's mind boggling that so many of you think this is part of what law enforcement should be doing. NOWHERE ELSE in the rest of the world has cops shooting people who are threatening to shoot themselves. What kind of warped sense of entitlement do you need to have to justify killing someone who you were specifically called to prevent from shooting themselves?

Were you there ? Were you faced with a situation where a man had a weapon and could have potentially hurt or killed others ? What if you had to make a decision to control that situation, what would YOU have done? If that cop had not acted, people would be on him for not doing his job. If that man got away, he could have taken hostages and been a danger to others.

They coined the phrase "Monday morning quarterback" for a reason, and this is one such example.

In gunfights, trained officers have 18 percent hit rate.

Wondering if the cops were all high fiving as if they had been in a shootout with a dangerous felon.
I've heard that cops who have fired weapons on duty and/or killed an armed person are held in high esteem among their peers

You heard wrong. I know a few police officers, and their worst nightmare is having to use their weapon, especially if it results in someone dying. They are human, and how would you feel if you killed someone ?

Not all cops are monsters, as we like to paint them.

Well first you are wondering how the cops reacted and injecting nonsense. Then you heard some speculative story on how cops react to their peers after a shooting.

You are just full of great comments. Don't you think shooting someone has a direct impact on how they will proceed in future confrontations. Maybe I should have done this, maybe I should have done that?

From the link :

What became clear: Accuracy with a firearm depends on training and the police training is far more extensive, comprehensive and ongoing than anything that would ever be provided for teachers, including scenario practices.

Require the training. Problem solved.

The underlined above doesn't have to be true. Require the training. Problem solved.

Either cops are trained to be idiots or psychopaths.

If your ego is so fragile that you can't handle not being exposed in someone's line of fire b/c then you don't have "control of the situation" then maybe they shouldn't be a cop?
Lol, so you are saying cops should be ok with someone pointing a gun at them? Maybe cops should be ok with someone pointing a gun at you? Maybe cops should not even respond to any call involving a gun? DO you realize guns kill people and a person cannot dodge bullets like on the movies?

Hard to find fault with the govt security guards on this one, but the victim probably could have waved around a ham sandwich and met the same fate
