"Hey JoeQ public- I'll give you a tax break for a while! ( okay let's slip some tax increases in here to pay for $hit, they'll never know... )
Way to go you Conservative guy you!
Democrats LOVE taxes. Gas prices fluctuate with world events and I'm OK with the tax as long as it's actually used for roads.
High-tax States will have to adjust their take to offset the pump price.
It don’t matter if Trump proposed a dollar a gallon increase, his supporters will shriek with joy about paying more at the pump. Meanwhile Trump will continue to gut programs that help the poorest Americans while giving huge tax breaks to billionaires, and his poor white trash supporters will say “Thank you Mr President for all you have done for billionaires!”
You figure them out, I can’t.
"Trump will continue"
OK DNC paid for shill, you have to DO something BEFORE you can CONTINUE, as you falsely claim.
This is evil socialism. You should pay for your own roads. Privatize it all and put toll booths on every road. Dont push communism on America, evilnewbie by supporting taxes.
Now right wingers are pro-tax increase all of a sudden.
Just imagine the responses if Obama had proposed this.
Indeed, in February 2016 President Obama proposed a $10 per barrel tax; it was estimated that it would result in an additional 20 to 25 cent per gallon price increase.
Oddly, the Republicans were against it, so the idea died. We even had a thread about it with many aghast at this Liberal President wanting to raise the gas tax on the poor.
So! President Trump has decided to bypass the tax-per-barrel idea, and simply put the tax at the fuel pump, but it all works out the same.
I am not, per se, against such a tax, if the money is used for infrastructure. However, perhaps the tax can be implemented in stages: 10 cents for two years, then a nickle each year thereafter until it hits 25 cents.
I totally support this. Road construction and repair should be paid for entirely from gas and vehicle registration taxes. It should not be funded from the general budget.
Thnak you, President Trump!
Agree. Those who use the roads should pay for their upkeep. And the vehicles who are the least fuel efficient tend to be the heavier ones, and therefore the vehicles who are rougher on the pavement... and so I'd like to see less people driving SUVs on the roads.
On the other hand, I'm tired of the public expecting public transportation to be cheap and paid for by those who don't use the system. Realistically, public transportation fares have to increase. For people going back and forth to work, they can afford the higher fares.
I'm totally against the gas tax increase, especially such a massive increase. How about take the gasoline and mileage ruining ethanol 10% out of gas. All the money the government takes in and it can't pay for basic infrastructure. Rural Americans will be burdened the most by an increase in gas tax, meanwhile Amazon which uses the infrastructure and roads paid zero income tax. It's the freight trucks tearing up roads and bridges. The gas tax money doesn't even all go to the roads, it gets distributed to all kinds public transit programs and raising public workers' salaries.
what's massive about 6.5 cents on a gallon?? he want to increase it TO 25 cents FROM 18.4 cents
Trump has been talking about improving infrastructure since he was a candidate

Yeah, and public transportation should be funded 100% only by the people who use it. Bus and subway fares only. It should not be funded from the general budget.

Right back at ya.
As soon as roads are not subsidized. Which they always have been.

Yeah I agree it is fishy, a temporary tax cut for the Middle Class, a permanent one for corporations. Or in this case, raising a gas tax that only middle class people will really care about since the rich will hardly notice it.
But on the other hand, at least with the Republicans, a tax has a chance it will be used for what it is intended. With the Democrats, a tax is just raised so it can provide funds to buy votes.
