leaving 1,009 victims out of 350,000,000 population. That's only 0.29 / 100,000 if you aren't going to shoot yourself and you aren't a repeat felon. The US isn't nearly as bad as the left wishes it was.

I don't think gun bans are a solution to anything, but there are some serious issues with American culture just on the basis of those things alone.

I agree a ban solves nothing.
There are plenty of ways for someone to kill themselves and other people if they cant get a gun.
We can see if behavioral health needs reworking, or do we have a right to end our lives and if so, are there better ways to do it? Some states allow for doctor-assisted suicide.
It is already illegal, or very difficult, for convicted felons to own a gun. In fact, some of those felons have access to weapons (fully-automated, grenades, etc. as an example) that a law-abiding citizen cannot legally obtain. The Brady Act and other laws are already in place that adequately cover gun ownership for the mentally ill and criminal elements.
Where is the enforcement of the existing laws?
We have poured millions and millions of dollars into the War on Drugs. How much have we poured into the War on Illegal Weapons?
Is no one even trying to get the illegal weapons off the streets because they know it will fail as badly as the War on Drugs has?
Establishing public policy based on statistically insignificant events is irrational.
FYI, the only statistically insignificant shootings are in countries with gun control.

As a percentage of total homicides they are. They are extremely rare, and the number of people killed compared to other means is statistically very, very low. Like .0000000001% low. You are more likely to win Power Ball or be hit by lightning twice.

Easy. We allow mentally ill people to be able to buy guns either by gun shops or under the radar with private sales. No other 1st or 2nd world country allows this. Plus anyone can buy a gun by private sale with no back ground check at all. It is a loophole that the NRA and Republicans love.
Please tell us your solution for stopping two people exchanging a firearm in a garage? This is no "loophole". It's two people that likely know each other swapping firearms. You can't legislate that out of existence.
Perhaps confusion exists because Minimum Sentencing is left to 50 states.
