I think it's just a typical diversion tactic to shore up support and turn attention away from the pandemic problems at hand. Nothing new about this.

In order to maintain faux outrage they have to ignore that possibility, and (as per usual) ignore the facts of the case.
The judge is considering a charge of perjury against Flynn, so if Flynn wants to claim coercion he will have a chance to show why.
The judge has heard this case for two and a half years, in all of it's gritty detail ... and he will probably ask for more details from the Department of Justice, such as why none of the actual prosecutors signed on to this change of position. That's a biggie right there.
