I do think the media, video games and movies all are responsible for this particular rifle to be used in these situations. But those movies and video games were around when I was 18 , 31 years ago and I don't recall a high number of school shootings from that era. I'm sure we can determine why that rifle was chosen, but the real question is why are young adults going on shooting sprees in the first place ?

You comment about murder, etc. are irrelevant.
You do know that the majority of all gun murders are done with handguns.

Just like crazy people, airbags malfunction and kill people every year. Also, just like airbags, guns save countless lives, prevent rape, and theft of property many many times over, yet the press never has any articles or breaking news about someone successfully using a gun to protect themselves.
I'm getting really tired of the attitude that we're all to turn in our guns, let an intruder, thief, or rapist enter our home, and then we're sued because the intruder cut his hand breaking the window getting into our home.

As an answer, more security at school, simple. I find it asinine that I can just go walk into pretty much any school when students are in session. In other countries, schools are on lockdown with one or two points of entry that are checked into.

The AR-15 is old technology, derived from rifle largely used by mid-western farmers kids to shoot gophers on the ranch, and largely used in it's automatic version as the M-16 in the Vietnam war. it is large and hard to conceal, the charging handle is difficult to pull back, and after about 400 rounds most of them will seize up or burst the gas tube and fail to operate. The reason they are the "weapon of choice" is they are cheap. Ton's of manufacturers make parts, and as long as the mil-spec is followed they all fit together with one or another and it has made the market very competitive. Ruger's Mini-14 for example, cost twice as much as an AR-15, same round, same semi automatic function.
The cascade mall shooter, near my locale, killed 5 people with a stolen 10/22, a .22 caliber plinking rifle my grandfather introduced me to when I was 11. What failed us there, was the mental state of the shooter and the failure of our justice system, as this shooter had 7 priors and 2 investigations into his mental stability by the state at only 19 years old.

The very first challenge to the SC on the 2nd amendment was to keep black freemen, from getting guns. It is the ruling all gun legislation stems from as precedence. That stood until the recent ruling McDonald v. Chicago.
Since all gun legislation used legislation that has been determined to be unconstitutional as precedence, all gun legislation is unconstitutional. as was before the Civil War.

A gun ban is as effective a ban on murdering people.

Look elsewhere for a solution.

Call for a gun ban is bumper sticker stong.

Imagine if the slaves had easy access to AR-15's. Would they have been called Slaves or employees?

Do all the school shootings have this in common: Parents who own multiple firearms?

Quote:
VADNAIS HEIGHTS, Minn. (AP) -- Prosecutors have charged a Minnesota man with illegally possessing a machine gun and a short-barreled shotgun after his 13-year-old son allegedly threatened a classmate.
Quote:
Authorities say they discovered a cache of weapons during a search of the family's Vadnais Heights home prompted by the boy's alleged threat last week.

The father was charged Monday with two felony weapons counts and a gross misdemeanor for negligently storing loaded firearms where a child could get at them. He makes his first appearance in Ramsey County court on Monday.

The son is accused in juvenile court of making threats.

Authorities say Friday's search by federal and local officers was spurred by a parent's report that a student from the Academy for Sciences & Agriculture in Vadnais Heights made a threat against another student.

This!

IMO

There's just far too many guns out in the hands of the public...

You can't use mental illness as a defense, because hatred of other human beings is not technically considered as a mental illness!

Besides, most mass-shootings were committed by people never previously determined to be mentally unfit.

Don't Hate!

Confiscate!

Parents? How about "Parent".
