The past 17 years have shown that no matter what, Afghanistan will always be populated by Afghans and that they tend to squabble among themselves unless they have foreigners to unite against. At some point we'll pull out and it'll be what's it's always been; a bloody mess.
Maintain an embassy and keep robust security for it.
Provide training and equipment to their army to fight the Taliban/ISIS.
It's their country and their responsibility.
America created ISIS. Are you getting it yet? Judging by whom you voted for president, obviously not
Bring every American home and tell the Afghans they're on their own, it's highly unlikely we'll accomplish anything after 16+ years that we haven't already.
Yup. Enough is enough. I don't give a fig about geopolitics. Bin Laden is dead...don't waste another life over there.
What do you think the U.S. should do in regards to its war in Afghanistan?
Do you think that we should continue the war effort as it is right now? Or do you think that we should try pursuing peace talks with the Taliban in an attempt to broker some sort of power-sharing agreement in which the Taliban will gain some power back but also renounce its support for terrorism and al-Qaeda and tone down its extremist stances on various issues?
The US is merely biding its time, maintaining a military presence in the region until it can initiate a conflict with Iran.
So, don't expect the US to withdraw any time soon.
Get the hell out, and bring every last one of our troops home.
That was the philosophy in Iraq several years ago, I don't think we are ready to watch the same mistake again. We are not withdrawing and the Taliban are not going away, we will be there for several years.
17 years going on 20. What else can be done to build a stable nation? No people in 1200 years (the Muslims) have been able to tame the Afghanis. We apostate Christians certainly won't do it. History is against us; we should accept this and leave.

Should have ended 10 years ago. Unless Afghan has some mysterious metal or technology we need, let them return to the Stone Age they want to live in.
