I mean Disney personnel knowing guests where feeding alligators which is against the law in Florida. Not to mention failure to post signs (even golf courses do that). I would call that dumb management.

There were signs where that little boy got killed. The parents were too stupid to know that "no swimming" also means stay out of the water.
There are about 100,000 public schools in the US. Some of them employ one or more of the following security measures:
Single point of entry
Penetration resistant doors
Armed Resource Officer (s) inside and/ or outside the school
ID card entry
Metal detectors
Wands
Surveillance Cameras
Face Recognition Cameras
Resistent glass
Bomb- sniffing dogs
Safety- shields
Random locker searches
Active shooter drills
All it takes is a state/ district willingness to fund it via taxation.
And metal detectors have become dirt cheap ($3000). Courthouses all over the country have been installing them for many years. I guess politicians think it's worth spending money on metal detectors for courthouses but not for schools.

We harden and protect everything valuable in this country EXCEPT our children and some people want it kept that way.
I wouldn’t be surprised if schools are charging that much per student per day to taxpayers
Especially in a big bureaucracy like LAUSD . Have you seen some of those salaries ?
Annual per pupil spending in California in 2017: $10,291 (CA ranks 41st in the nation in this area.)
$135 X 270 school days (there are probably more days than that): $36,450.

I've played a lot of golf courses where alligators live and don't ever remember a sign saying "don't feed the alligators".
How many kids are actually killed in school shooting as a percentage of total students?
