A lot of internal internet traffic with regard to Arlington, Virginia.

somewhere between "maybe" and "no", with a strong hint of "who cares"

I thought they revealed it in a sneaky way during their Super Bowl ad - Alexa was asked "what's the weather in Austin?"

Arlington currently has a lot of vacant commercial space, high rises in Rosslyn and Crystal City areas. Both are served by multiple Metro (subway) stations and within 10 minutes of Washington National airport.

The glut was caused by overbuilding and the sequestration.

Seems to me like the location should be opposite of Seattle... somewhere warm, sunny, slightly less urbanized, etc. to attract people with different preferences.

Austin or Phoenix would be perfect, but who am I to say...

No. The employees don't know anything until the announcement is made. They might think or speculate, but they don't know.

Good Grief...if they knew, do you honestly think they could keep it a secret? Not a chance!

My impression from reading the Amazon documents is they want to build an HQ, not use existing vacant space. Also they want it all consolidated onto one campus, not scattered around town. I cannot think of a single vacant commercial area that would accommodate Amazon's needs they outlined.
