Yale history professor suspects Trump will nullify mid-term elections and claim they were invalid if the DNC retakes Congress.
"My new concern is that there will be something that happens around the time of the midterms. This will allow Trump and his allies to say that the midterms don't really count or that we have to have the midterms under exceptional conditions. Take note of how Secretary of State Rex Tillerson recently said that the Russians are going to hack the 2018 election and we really can't do anything about it.
I'm starting to wonder whether the idea might be to discredit the election and use Russian interference as a pretext to say that the elections aren't real and therefore we must not have any turnover."
Trump and Trumpism is more like a cancer, or more accurately, a foreign virus on our national politics. A rot that is destroying our institutions and unity. He is also undermining all respect for the rule of law.
Trump is too inept and his attention span too short to attempt a putsch, and not popular at all with the military brass, who look at him as a fool.
However, he is setting the table for a future autocrat by his actions, words and deeds .

He is setting the table for one in the future.
I doubt this scenario as well.
Republicans in Congress are announcing their retirements at an unprecedented pace, but I can't imagine that even the most craven of those remaining would go along with not seating elected officials, however tainted the election.
However, I agree that Trump and his followers are a political cancer that while we may be able to push it back into remission this time around, the malignancy will fester and work to destroy our nation.
These same kinds of stupid claims were made about Obama. And to think, people say it's the Russians. They did nothing that we do not do ourselves many times over.

Pot, meet kettle.
At the center of all our institutions is the institution of private property and free enterprise -- and I'm not speaking of the individuality-hating, mindless conformity known as "Korporate" culture. For every Bill Gates or Jeff Bezos (and regardless of their motivation, what they built will help sustain our non-profit sector long after they're gone) there are thousands of Mom-and-Pop enterprises -- and many of them survive by catering to the foibles of people who don't think too deeply.
Just the way it is, and I don't have an easy answer, but I trust Trump (only slightly) more than Two-Faced Hillary, Slimy Bill, Barry-O, Bernie and their core clientele of delusionals, dullards, overgrown teenagers and outright riffraff.
