And yet people pretty much accept the government‘s argument that they have no right to yell “fire” in a crowded theater.
Public welfare and all that.
The same people who claim "the government shouldn't mess with your rights" are also perfectly fine with preventing gays from marrying, etc.
Remember: 41 states in the union do not have background checks on all gun sales. Meanwhile, only 35 recognize legal gay marriage, and only 7 allow legal recreational pot use.
We're to believe that, in America, gay marriage and smoking weed are both more dangerous than selling guns to people who can't pass a background check. Lunacy.
Baloney. Typical leftist nonsense. Try listening to what people are saying, not what you think they're saying. You might learn something.
Typical right-wing drivel - pretending to be reasonable, while denying reality. I did listen to what people are saying, and the right has no defense for their position in this debate.
I love how reductive this comment is - too bad it's untrue. As a female, I have zero desire to be macho, as you put it. I do like self protection though. Good thing we have a right in the Constitution to allow women like myself to have self protection.
Look, if you don't like the 2nd amendment, utilize the methods outlined in the Constitution to change it. But see, here's the issue with that - so many on here touting the 200 is greater than 5 million number as it pertains to NRA membership. How much you to bet that you couldn't even get close to changing the second amendment and that a large number of those 200 million may not be members of the NRA but want to retain the 2nd just as it's written?
Like I said upthread, people in this country do not like the government messing with their rights. If the activists want to claim some moral victory or something by bullying companies to no longer give discounts to NRA members, whatever. But trust me, the NRA and the 2nd isn't going away. So whether or not you think "times change", the Constitution makes sure it's immune from knee jerk reactions like we're seeing now from these companies.
Anton Scalia in the Heller decision said that gun rights are not unlimited. The challenge to Maryland's assault weapon ban in which the 4th circuit said that the 2nd amendment does not apply to assault weapons was denied a hearing by SCOTUS so the law stands.
That was also the sentiment after the Vegas concert shooting.
This is different.....in that case it was somewhat abstract - it was almost like "Oh that's terrible what happened to all those people" but not many saw it as personally affecting or being able to happen to them ; now with the continuing issues of school shooting incidents, parents (and soon to be parents or those of very young children), grandparents, teachers, children, etc. are wondering/fearing whether it can be their kid(s)/them next.
To use an old cliche, the straw is piling up on the getting very weak camel's back.
Good luck with all those wonderful discounts that NRA card gets you, guys!
