Yeah, in any school you are likely to have a few people with extensive experience with guns...predominantly ex-military.

Arming most is silly but there are going to be a few that would be quite competent in that role.

I'm surprised that people are just jumping to criticize this along political lines.

This is NOT a new phenomenon.

We have many churches in this country (especially historically targeted ones like black churches) that have armed members. In fact I know a guy who is "security" at his almost entirely black church.

There are many many stories of them preventing a massacre this way.

a trained professional is taught to shoot to kill, and not to would, if they feel their lives are in danger...if someone has a gun, and you don't know its a toy, your going to protect yourself....sheesh....

I guess the other poster is just trying to say why wasn't there maybe a timeout to talk about feelings or sit down and look at the toy gun together. It would have taken no more than a few minutes to do so. All this talk of in the line of duty and in a dangerous moment to follow procedures. Another name for racism. Blatantly so this time. Many of these shootings would stop if the police officers were just more friendly at times. Why not even make the effort to chat with some of the black people, regardless of whether they have a gun or not in their hands. How does anybody know for sure if the gun will be discharged ?. Just because somebody has a gun in their hand does not mean anything. Can the police say for sure if the suspect even had his finger on the trigger. You see how it goes?. Another thing. Why haven't the police depts. started programs to identify if the gun is a toy or not. With all this newfangled technology , they have drones and apps flying all around us now, can somebody not use they call it the gps systems to zoom in with the space cameras to do a scan on the gun and send it to a lab maybe to analyse it , then provide the results to the police officer so he can know what to do next. It might be a good idea to get the police officer to leave the scene immediately until the space cameras issue their results.

Anything else is just racism.

There is some truth in that. Not necessarily black students but students period. You know it's bound to happen.

^^^^^This^^^^^

How are they supposed to know it is a toy gun? Very hard to tell in a split second.

Monday morning qb's are great, until they need to make a decision immediately.

Again, given that gun control laws are not perfect - a core part of the right's crusade to get rid of all gun control laws - by definition, increasing the number of guns in circulation is simply going to result in more potential violence. That is simple math. If for every 100 guns sold, 1 gets into the hands of a loon who will kill with it, putting thousands of guns in the hands of teachers simply means at some point a dangerous person will now be able to bring a gun into a target-rich environment.

There is no excuse for this idiotic "solution." Progressives and "hard-left gun hating liberals" (all few dozens of them) understand this is a dumb idea, but the far-right, by their own admission of the imperfection of gun laws and gun vetting, also condemns the idea... even if they are not smart enough to realize that.
