The thing is they all want to ban the scary black guns but they don't realize that there are more powerful rifles out there. When they realize that then those too will be on the list to ban.
They won't be happy until we are reduced to shotguns and BB guns.
Of course I would rather not be shot at all but if given a choice would you rather take a round from a AR15 or a shotgun blast from a close proximity? The difference is a neat little hole or chunks of flesh being removed. When you consider a mass shooting most of the time the shooter is in close quarters with the victims. I think the damage would be far more grisly with a shotgun and more deaths would result.
MG3 means you're either not from the US or didn't serve in the US Military, the US used the 'Pig' M60 and now M240 Can't say I've fired an MG3 have fired several GPMGS though during my time with the Military. One point of note is most NATO allies don't use the M16/M4 standard issue, UK uses the SA80 (formerly the L1A1SLR) Germany the G36, Australia the F88 (Modified AUG), France FAMAS transitioning to the HK416 which while cosmetically looks like an M16/AR-15 uses short stroke gas piston, not direct impingement, so it's really an entirely different rifle. There pretty much are no NATO forces other than the US using the M16/M4 platform, nor does Israel (Tavor), nor any Scandinavian NATO by proxy, not even Saudi.

That won't stop criminals from getting them. There are tens of millions in circulation now. It will only keep the law abiding from having them. Also, it is the magazine that gives many of these rifles its Standard Capacity in which it was designed. There are even more magazines in circulation. This isn't a small country like Australia.
The answer is to stop criminals from being able to act. Law Enforcement had every opportunity to stop this guy. They failed. Address that issue.
Might as well ban all high capacity semi-automatic handguns and shotguns then also, right? That's only 97% of the arms bought in the last 60 years. Then you can ban all the bolt action that holds multiple rounds.
